King Hoarse's current Top 50

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

King Hoarse's current Top 50

Post by King Hoarse »

50 records I like in no particular order with favourite tracks & a comment here and there:

Image

Fish, Forever Your Love

Image

Manitoba, Horrible Day

Image

God Created Woman, Worried Mind

Image

Uncle Morris, I'm Gonna Watch You Sleep

Image

Get Away, What Am I Spose To Do?

Image

Lonely Woman, Focus On Sanity

Image

The Martin Luther King Suite, 22nd Century (for an original album go for Nina Simone & Piano!)

Image

Madame George, Cyprus Avenue

Image

This Is What She's Like, The Waltz (get the version with this cover: excellent bonus tracks!)

Image

Indian Queens, Has She Got A Friend?

Image

The Picture, Hitting You, Sometimes I Forget (the live Career Moves is a better place to start though)

Image

When The Day Is Short, TV Show

Image

Go Or Go Ahead, Dinner At Eight

Image

What'll I Do, Dig My Grave

Image

There Ain't No Sweet Man That's Worth The Salt Of My Tears, The Birds Will Still Be Singing (her other Richrd Thompson produced CD The Very Thought Of You is a must too)

Image

Time And Again, Northwinds

Image

Just A Little Lovin', I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore

Image

Rednecks, Marie, A Wedding In Cherokee County

Image

Look Here, You Can Count On Me To Do My Part

Image

Visa från Utanmyra, Visa från Rättvik (jazz pianist Jan Johansson and bassist Georg Riedel play old Swedish folk tunes. I'm not including anything with Swedish vocals on this list, but this is essential.)

Image

I Wish I Was A Mole In The Ground, The Butcher's Boy, Sugar Baby, Indian War Whoop, John The Revelator...(I can't imagine life without this, really)

Image

A Public Execution, Psychotic Reaction, Talk Talk, Spazz, Journey To The Center Of The Mind, The Witch...(that other essential box set)

Image

The Luckiest Guy On The Lower East Side, Papa Was A Rodeo (so what if half the songs aren't great; that's still more gems than on Exile On Main Street)

Image

Ice Cream Man, I'm A Little Dinosaur

Image

Rockaway Beach, Glad To See You Go

Image

Whiskey River, Red Headed Stranger Medley (more furious tempo than the above-mentioned Ramones express train)

...and that's only half time.
What this world needs is more silly men.

so here we go again:

Image

Shelter From The Storm, Idiot Wind (the b side is the best LP side ever, only threatened by:)

Image

Caroline Says II, Men Of Good Fortune, The Bed (this does depress me though...I recommend Coney Island Baby for lovers, preferably transgendered. Cope?)

Image

On The Beach, Motion Pictures (please Willie, cover this!)

Image

You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory, I Can't Stand The Rain

Image

Goodbye, Watertown (Man, this list is starting to look gloomy! Time to...)

Image

Riot Act, King Horse

Image

Don't Do It, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

Image

Revelator, Dear Someone

Image

Storm Windows, Unwed Fathers

Image

Clown In Broad Daylight, So Young (Retriever may be a better album, but this is closest to my heart. Now, more brilliant Canadians:)

Image

A New Name For Everything, Our Retired Explorer

Image

Cuckatoo Quill, Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump

Image

Cut Into The Earth, Die Jugend Marschiert

Image

More Than A Joke, God. Family. Country.

Image

Avalanche, Famous Blue Raincoat

Image

The Ship Song, The Weeping Song

Image

Turkish Song Of The Damned, Thousands Are Sailing

Image

A Bone Through Her Nose, Jennie, Al Bowlly's In Heaven (Not his best, but way too overlooked. The one I listen to the most is the sadly deleted Two Letter Words double live CD)

Image

Forest, Old Europe

Image

Better Git It In Your Soul, Goodbye Porkpie Hat, Fables Of Faubus

Image

Railroad Man, Hey Man (Now You're Really Living), I'm Going To Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart

Image

I Don't Want To Grow Up, Who Are You?

Image

I See A Darkness, I'm Leavin' Now

Image

Halo Of Flies, Dead Babies (Johnny Rotten's favourite album apparently)

Image

Alternative Ulster, Johnny Was

Image

The Decline, Clams Have Feelings Too (Actually They Don't)

phew

Wow.. that must have taken you a long time. Great list... glad to see someone else has some love for Rock Of Ages
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

I'd read up enough on Berlin to be ready for it, but the day I played Watertown at the CD store I used to manage, I found myself more irritable than usual. A powerful, fascinating piece of work, but I don't know if I'll be able to ever hear it again.

Back to Berlin -- that version of "Sad Song" is probably one of my favorites songs by anybody. ("I'm gonna stop wasting my time/Somebody else would have broken both of her arms")

My kids love Basher's 'Indian Queens'. We're going to Cornwall in August and I intend to play the song as we drive through the Cornish village of Indian Queens 8) .

This sentence makes me giggle.

Is there a band called the Wet Pussies? If there isnt there should be,
they could play a double bill with the Hard Ons.
echos myron like a siren
with endurance like the liberty bell
and he tells you of the dreamers
but he's cracked up like the road
and he'd like to lift us up, but we're a very heavy load

I do believe the Hard-Ons have played with the Muffs.

(And of course, Hard-Ons with Venerea.)

I picked up Watertown today, a bargain. I'd thought it looked familiar...

I like that his voice doesn't sound very full or very much like what I'm used to from Frank, it suits the songs. I like The Train right away.
