This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

They played "The Man Who" on NPR not too long ago (where Rouse duets with his girlfriend) and it sounded amazing. Gotta pick that one up at some point myself.

Ahh, Bob Seger. I went through a big, big Seger phase and he's quite possibly the only man who might deserve a stay of execution for sporting a mullet.

Its a great album. I was always aware of his hit songs, but never thought of actually buying something of his until I heard it at my brother in-laws a couple weeks ago. These live versions are great. I really like the opening track "Nutbush City Limits". I can see him singing that with a greasy mullet and a doobie in the ashtray.

Here we go again

As part of another sale, I just got:

The Band - Northern Lighs, Southern Cross (this the only other good album besides Big Pink... and The Band? You tell me...)
Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain (seems like a good way to go from Heaven Up Here)
Simple Minds - Sons & Fascination (one of their first albums, havn't heard in ages but I have very fond memories of my sister's vinyl copy)
R.E.M. - Document (had on vinyl and mp3 for a long time)
Joni Mitchell - Court And Spark (perhaps a good place to start?)
The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come (been afraid of getting this until now for some reason)

And also:
Morrissey's new album
Built To Spill's new album, You In Reverse, to be released next week.

looks like a good haul. let me know how the new BtS is. I loved Keep It Like A Secret, but thought Ancient Melodies was kind of weak.

Chrille - Ocean Rain is excellent, more accessible than Heaven Up Here but equally as great and Court and Spark is a great album to start with, I would recommend Hejira next.

It's fantastic! Moz and Marr both think it's The Smiths' best. I can't believe it isn't better than Meat, but I really must get that and play it properly. Girlfriend in a Coma, Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before, I Won't Share You - some of The Smiths' best moments.

This was actually the first thing I had by them. I absolutely love it. My personal favorite is 'A Rush and a Push', but I have no idea why!

Picked these up at Amoeba Records in L.A... an unbelievable record store that specializes in used stuff:

Al Green - Call Me (remastered)
Beck - Guero
The Jayhawks - Blue Earth
The Thrills - So Much For The City
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Just won online auctions for Lowe's Jesus of Cool, Prince's 1999 & Sign O The Times, all on vinyl for just a few bucks. I haven't bought vinyl since, well, at least ten years. Probably fifteen.

Raspberries Greatest

Go All The Way, I Wanna Be W/You, Let's Pretend, Tonight, Ectasy, Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)....... An underappreciated band. The liner notes say that as Springsteen was recording The River he was listening to The Raspberries.

Waiting for Squeeze's Argybargy to be reissued, or available at a decent, non-Japanese-expensive-import price, I just won an auction for a vinyl copy for 2 USD

I'm catching up! For several years I was so poor I was barely able to get just a few records every year.

These are the CDs I bought while in Washington DC, both in the Music Shop of the Museum of American History (a place to make El Vez drool). It was an impossible choice so in the end I picked the two I couldn't bare to turn off while I was at the listening station:

The latter is an amazing bargain-- around $12 for a 3-cd set-- which is going to have me seeking out the other BMG "Real" compilations. See tracklisting here:

Washington is a geek shopper's dream/nightmare. I also bought the gorgeous catalogue to the hugely comprehensive Dada show at the National Gallery, a kid-oriented biography of Moe Berg, and lots of other little crap I probably didn't really need....

Pogues: If I Should Fall From Grace With God
Pretenders: Learning To Crawl

One of the best albums I've heard for some time. More fulfilling than the Jenny Lewis album (which is still pretty good). 8)
