Elvis's best look!
Inspired by the 'Elvis's new look' thread Selected 'looks' mostly drawn from album covers and such...
When man has destroyed what he thinks he owns
I hope no living thing cries over his bones

I really haven't cared that much about the "look" since TYM, being a somewhat impressionable teenager at the time. To me the TYM "look" was just a further refinement of the MAIT "look", going from geeky to somewhat more dangerously geeky.
As time goes by, EC's look has become less and less important, pretty much defined by the style of the glasses and the fashion of the hat, if worn, vascillating between casual and more formal, depending on the situation and company he finds himself in at any given time.
To me, the TYM look was THE iconic (almost a caricature) EC look. It was so powerful, it took him years to move past it or at least come to terms with it.

I'm mildly alarmed that the 'pornographer' look is winning this thing But I just knew the 'North' look would get at leasy one vote.
I agree that 'look' has become less important, in direct correlation to the decline of EC's commercial ambitions. Young, ambitious artists tend to be aware of themselves as a total package - an attitude, an image, a sound, a persona, etc.. In the case of the good ones, this can reflect their sense of 'speaking to the culture' as a whole (as it clearly did with Elvis). Nowadays, not so much. Still, it's fun to follow an artist who is throwing curveballs like the 'Wolfman' look of MLAR...too bad those days seem to be done.
