'High water risin' - risin' night and day
All the gold and silver are being stolen away
Big Joe Turner lookin' East and West
From the dark room of his mind
He made it to Kansas City
Twelfth Street and Vine
Nothing standing there
High water everywhere'

When I Was Cruel most underrated song. 'Soul For Hire'

'I see every human kind
And still the truth is distant
I see every evil men do and desire
Got to be more then just a soul for hire'

Great lyrics; Mysterious, dark and sexy melody; Good singin´;...
nothing wrong with it.

oh, and please don´t come sayin´ that it doest fit with the record mood.

(And in a recent thread - made by the most intellectual elviscostellofans.com poster - i pick its first lines as my favourite Costello first lines)

North and When i was cruel. Studio and in Concert

Sadly, i´ve never been in a Costello concert, and neither listen to any of his 2 last records live (except 3 or 4 songs in the tv). Im curious: which one is better when played in concert? i believe that most people will say that the songs from WIWC is better (just because the studio record is much s...
