Bob Dylan turns 70 today as the Revolver tour ends at the Beacon.

(When are we gonna get that Wellmont show rescheduled, anyway?)

Some peanuts in celebration. When I was 16 in 1966, Dylan was 26 and Revolver was brand new. Now I'm very confused!

It's also Rosanne Cash's birthday. Maybe they could do "Song With Rose" tonight?

Elvis didn't show any sign he knew it was Burt Bacharach's birthday when "God Give Me Strength" came up on the wheel on May 12.

I hope tonight the wheel lands on some of the more elusive "jackpots." Anyone know offhand which jackpots have not come up?

Or for that matter, which rarities on the wheel have not been played so far?

"Happy," "Imperial Chocolate," and "King's Ransom." Actually, Elvis rigged the wheel for "Happy" in L.A. but then chose to answer shouts for "Alison" instead. Of course, we don't know whether these jackpots would produce actual rarities.

I'd like "Beauty Or Beast?" to come up again, since I'm not convinced its meaning has been established.

"Big Tears," "Church Underground," "Poor Napoleon," and "Riot Act."

Plus "Hank" and "Harlan," which were only on the wheel in Cincinnati (and "Harlan" may have been "Busted" in disguise).

Black and White World with @questlove on drums.
He's covering "Let Me Roll It" now. Maybe the best EC show I've seen yet.
More spins: Accidents Will Happen and Chelsea
"Hand in Hand" into "And Your Bird Can Sing." Damn.
Beyond Belief followed by I Want You. I can now die happy.
Indoor Fireworks :)
The Beacon swoons as Costello covers Dylan's "License To Kill" on Bob's 70th b'day and punctuates "now Columbia Recs. doesn't exist." Ouch.
The "girl" set: this year's girl /
I've grown so fond of gravity Sometimes I like to breathe (Wndy James - earthbound. I had to look it up)
Suddenly "Alison" is the ASSHOLES TALK NOW song.
questlove wrote:Lol Costello turns "Party Girl" into "Purple Rain" and damn if this fits PERFECTLY!!! Like a remixed customised Costellization.

Another great night in NYC!

Highlights for me were Hoover Factory, Hand In Hand, and EC sharing the mic with Pete during Black And White World while Questlove played drums. Yet another show for the ages. My audio bootleg sounds good and will be up on DIME soon. I have the entire show in HD video, along with night #1. That's FIVE HOURS of video to work with. Some is amazing, some unwatchable. But it's gonna be a lot of fun for me to sift through all that footage for the multiple gems hidden within.

Now about that Wellmont gig...

I think the Beacon needs a new roof after last night! :D

Sorry if anybody didn't get to meet me last night ... there was a whole bunch of people I met last night who were just names/personas to me until now. I'm still in NYC until Saturday if anyone is keen to say hi to one of EC's most fervent (and certainly well-traveled) Aussie fans.

Looks like another great show.

And typical Elvis to play a Bob Dylan song that none of us would have guessed.

Roger Friedman

…?uestlove, the leader of the Roots, found himself on stage last night at the Beacon Theater during Elvis Costello‘s final show. The talented drummer from Jimmy Fallon’s house band had just gotten a ticket and was in the audience. But he was soon recruited to spin Costello’s song wheel, and then to play drums on one song while Imposters veteran Pete Thomas took a break. Costello’s last show was a smash, with many new songs added to the mix including some not heard in a long time from “This Year’s Girl” and “Imperial Bedroom.” Diana Krall stayed backstage this time. But legendary concert promoter Ron Delsener danced around in the wings.

After the show, Elvis, Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher blew off steam with friends and family. Costello told me that not just his half brother Ronan, but all four of his famous jazz musician dad’s sons from his second marriage are talented musicians. “It was the first time we ever sang anything together,” Elvis said of Ronan’s guest spot Monday night. Also featured last night, brilliantly: Costello collaborator Jim Lauderdale. PS Costello did say quip on stage last night that Columbia Records–his original label– was out of business. Well, maybe to him. Several of the Columbia execs who worked on his first, most famous albums were on hand–they’re all ex-Sony/Columbia–and got a laugh out of that.

Also: the amazing Steve Nieve, who’s been Costello’s arranger, band leader, and keyboardist extraodinaire for 35 years, has just finished his own album. There are plenty of great guest vocalists like Glenn Tilbrook, Ron Sexsmith, Joe Sumner of Fiction Plane, Laurie Anderson, Harper Simon, Costello, and Vanessa Paradis aka Mrs. Johnny Depp. “2 Gether” is an album some major label should jump on.
