Nice work Poor Deportee.
I wouldn't necessarily agree that Mr Feathers is one of the hearts of the record though. Stella Hurts, Flutter & Wow and My Three Sons I'd agree with - see my earlier comments.
To me - and it might just be me - I just cannot fathom Mr Feathers. It's one of those songs Elvis makes every now and again that makes no sense to me - like Luxembourg.
I love the album though. Song With Rose and Pardon Me Madam are growing on me.
At the moment American Gangster Time is the weakest track (apart from the aforementioned Mr Feathers).

Mr. Feathers reminds me a lot of Gods Comic for some reason.

Similar genre and rhythm.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

God's Comic had a better lyric, IMO. Like verbal, I'm having a hard time making sense of Mr. Feathers. Nice performance, though.

I liked the first song and last immediately, the middle of the album grew on me. Hearing the songs live at Jazz Fest in NO and Philadlephia made me like the whole thing. He has better albums though. The ones you just can't get out of your CD player (Spike, Blood and Choc. ...)

Speaking of Mr. Feathers, my take on it is that it is another one of those songs where EC matches an unsavory lyric to an upbeat, sunny melody and instrumentation. Very few EC songs, as we know, are straightforward linear narratives, but this one seems to be about the impact of a sexual pervert (Mr.F) on a girl who has now grown to womanhood and carries the wounds with her. She meets up with the now elderly Mr. F, and we see things from her current viewpoint. I think.
