Our Family - Top Trombonist Paul Rutherford Dies

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Our Family - Top Trombonist Paul Rutherford Dies

Post by Gillibeanz »

Paul Rutherford was my partner Bruces uncle who died last week at the age of just 67.

He was leading a figure on the British free and improvising jazz scenes and has played with all the top musicians on several albums and also has many of his own. He invented the use of unorthodox playing techniques of trombone multiphonics for improvisation, ie he sings into the trombone and blows at the same time.

He was a lovely and very funny man who will be very sadly missed by our family friends and all musicians. R.I.P Paul.

Condolences to you and yours- being from New Orleans I especially have a soft spot in my heart for a trombonist. Best wishes.
