I think Australia will finally be over the 'we can really do it. we're as good as anyone, really!' traditional inferiority complex from now on. This is going to do wonders for the code locally. DOWN with Italy!

Shit, I've just read two Spanish players from my FF team will be sat on the bench. :x
WSS gets a good chance to widen the gap.

Not really, as most others have chosen Henry as well.

They will be rioting in Paris - again - if France crash out today.

By the way, did any of the Yanks (or those from south of the Mason-Dixon Line - i.e. moody) see Stephen Colbert's show last night?
Yep. And because I'm a nice, kind, caring kind of person, I waded thru 20 pages of Landon-Donovan-Sucks-And-Singlehandedly-Cost-Us-The-Game garbage to bring it to you.

Colbert called the team "pussies" last night.

Classic Colbert. I liked the first line about 'tearing them a new one... WITHOUT using our hands.'

So Henry's benched, is that what you're sayin? How does one find these things out? As of this morning everything I read indicated he was still 'probable'. Also, I don't get why we get unlimited transfers for the remaining rounds... makes no sense. I mean, I get that some of your current players may get knocked out, but it seems like there should be a better system than just opening it up entirely.

But who am I to say-- I may as well have sat this round out, I got so few points!

No, I have not heard that Henry will be on the bench. In fact, I am almost certain he will play. Spain has decided to bench a few starters, but France must go all-out to score goals.

Okay good, that's more what I thought-- I misunderstood what you wrote above.

This round I have seen Casillas, Nuno Valente, Christiano Ronaldo, Tenorio and Puyol all rested!

Henry and Gallas had better start tonight - especially as I have Henry as my captain.

My non-weekend internet use has meant that I've picked my next round team already without Gallas and Henry. I bet France hit form tonight and Henry goes on to score a hat trick next round with Gallas scoring and keeping a clean sheet!

Six more points from Sheva. Now for Henry to go nuts against Togo and round off a nice Phase 3.

Good old Claudio. Always seemed like a decent guy, though I'm not sure he was ever the most vocal captain and injuries always kept him from showing his best I think. Time for new blood, both players and manager.

Will probably last a day.

Ukraine-Switzerland and Spain-France the biggest head-scratchers of the first knockout round IMO. Ukraine hasn't been especially impressive, but they do have Sheva. Switzerland defend well, but haven't been setting the tournament on fire. Spain always seem to fuck up at the World Cup and despite the recent euphoria, you get the sense that they could revert to form now that they're out of that incredibly easy group. France have yet to impress, but they created a lot of opportunities today and should have scored 4-5 goals. Hmmm..

PS - Senderos apparently suffered a shoulder injury and may not play the next match, so I guess it's the Ukrainians for me

The tedious but necessary group stages are over with, the real stuff starts now. Goalless draws penalties, tears. Haven't been statto enough in monitoring the ff, so I'm down with the """"yank"""" also rans and girls. Hope to improve but statto Sam has a good lead. I predict a German v Brazil final.

I've been thinking that as well. Though as a Yank also-ran and a girl, I surely think it for less valid reasons. I predict SLL's head to continue to be up his own ass.
