Annoying Phrases

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

And indeed it is. If there's one thing worse than people saying 'between you and I' (which is pretty understandable and forgiveable, and English is tricky in that respect), it's people who insist a split infinitive is wrong per se. there are many cases where an adverb sounds so much more harmonious placed there.

Split infinitives are fine, but "between" is a preposition, and I could be wrong, but I can't think of any case in which it would be okay to follow a preposition with "I." It bugs me more than people who say "Me and my mother went to the store," because you just know that people who say, "My mother picked my sister and I up" would correct people who say "Me and my mom went..."

Or, to quote Winston Churchill on the subject..."That is the kind of pedantry up with which I shall not put."

No offence there! And I have the photos to prove it... now that I've finally scaled the technological heights of an online photo repository, I'm gonna share.

"how much did that set you back?" Just because I exchange money for something it doesn't mean it's a set-back. Secondly, as a demand to know the amount which is none of their business.

Has anyone submitted this one yet?
"Let's bounce this around".

Oh, and any form of "self actualization" is annoying, especially with reference to an object. Last week my law professor said that with reference to a case.

MSNBC had this on their website the other day: Is Sports Ready for Gay Players?

it's bugging the shit out of me (I?) - is that correct???? my own grammar being a bit shaky, I thought this must be some kind of exception to them rules I were taught. Otis, MBA, somebody tell me!

oh, and on the radio this morning, a bank manager spoke of how the LARGEST MAJORITY of her employees had never worked in such a friendly environment.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

Hardee's keeps promoting some kind of "hand-scooped milkshake." I know they must mean that the ice cream is actually scooped out and then put into a blender, but the posters and billboards around town just don't look right.

Better than a milk-scooped handshake though.

I live near a place called Bromley and there has been a recent council document about the redevelopment of Bromley's shopping centre. There is also a large place called Croydon nearby.

The council document made reference to the Croydonisation of Bromley
