Punk icon to deliver crowds, traffic headaches

HIGHLAND PARK — Police and Ravinia Festival officials are hoping accidents won't happen as they warn motorists of probable traffic congestion Wednesday evening when the festival will feature popular rock singer Elvis Costello at 8 p.m.
Based on estimated pre-sales of tickets, significant attendance is expected at the concert, police said.
Officials said traffic increases about two and a half hours before showtimes and for half an hour to an hour after performances.
Congestion is to be expected particularly on Lake-Cook Road, Green Bay Road, the eastern portion of Clavey Road, and Central and Laurel avenues, police said.
Additionally, overflow parking in public lots is anticipated in the Ravinia business district, as well as the central business district. Overflow parking is typically directed to available parking lots as to not affect parking availability for customers who are frequenting area establishments, officials said.
