LIVE 8

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Elvis is due to play Kenwood at 7:30 on July 2 so it would be a safe to speculate that he may do at least a short acoustic set during a changeover between bands at Hyde Park.

The only performers I've heard mentioned so far are elderly who were around for Live Aid, except Spice Girls. I wonder if sir Geldorf thinks that's as good as it has gotten in the last twenty years?

There is a good mix of old and new lined up. Still, nothing makes me want to travel over for it, never mind watch it. It's aims are worthy, I suppose.

I wonder if Elvis will do a song specially for the day. At Live Aid he did All You Need Is Love and at Self Aid he did Many Rivers To Cross.

I'll bet on an EC/SN duet of "What's Going On?".
On the other hand, because he's in London he'll probably do "You'll Never Walk Alone"

I know this is off the subject...but what in the world is the picture on your avatar? I can obviously see it's EC and it looks like he's signing something, but I can't make it out. Looks like it's some sort of body part.....how wrong am I?

I see Pink Floyd are re-uniting with Roger Waters for this - at least that will be worth seeing.

I wonder if Elvis' concert at Kenwood House that night will be affected. I think the words "and I would rather be anywhere else but here today" may be sung with more meaning than usual.

Is it just me that has no enthusiasm about the Live 8 concert? I was moved by Live Aid. The Live 8 concert is just not doing anything for me. Unless the Spice Girls do reform of course

I think its because its the same old suspects really isnt it? I mean Sting?? A bit of new blood might have upped the excitement levels - and isnt that what the whole thing is supposed to do? Get people motivated and politicised?? How about a lineup like.......

Teenage Fanclub
Hal
Television
David Bowie
Placebo
The Chemical Brothers
Morrissey
Todd Rundgren
The Flaming Lips
Brian Wilson
Devo
The Fall
The Go - Betweens
Stevie Wonder
Cheap Trick
Iggy Pop
Randy Newman
James Brown
Spoon
New Order
Pink Floyd
Echo and the Bunneymen
Cocteau Twins
Prince
Lee Scratch Perry
Chrissy Hynde
George Clinton
Blondie
Roxy Music
Ray Davies/the Kinks
Elvis Costello
The Rolling Stones
Paul Mccartney

Now THAT would have me marching on Parliment - Sting aint gonna get me off the couch!

If the Bobster (Sir Bob Geldof and not our own beloved one) wants bands that sell records and are capable of filling stadiums playing, then why is he on the bill?

Mike - I agree that the line up is oh so predictable. But the artists you list are, in almost all cases, far too credible to be involved.

It's a good cause but as with almost all of these modern day (ie post the original Live Aid) events, I think it's partly good cause and mostly self/record company helping.

I like how the ticket sales don't go towards helping Africa, but rather "to build awareness"

Well, In the UK at least, they are free events - so there are no ticket sales as such. To be fair!

The whole thing is just so boring. An excuse for pop stars to pat themselves on the back.

And what in the world has happened to Bob Geldof? He was never the picture of health but now he looks like he's been living in a cardboard box.
