Summerstage show, NYC

Post by zipthunk »

What a show, what a show, what a show!
Elvis was in great spirits (or so it seemed to me) from the get-go. After all the reviews and set-lists I had seen indicating that this may be a more mellow, detached Elvis show, all my fears were put to rest when he launched right into the 1,2,3 punch of Waiting for the End of the World, Beyond Belief, and Radio, Radio...well, I could've gone home right then. Other highlights for me included a rocked up version of Everyday I Write the Book ( a song I've never really been a fan of until now), the gospel-like opening of I Can't Stand Up..., a blistering Uncomplicated, the eeriest version of Watching the Detectives I have EVER heard!, and, holy shit, Almost Blue.....wooowwwww....I thought I Want You was one of the great moments of his last tour, but this was just....beautiful. I mean, chills...chills...chills.
Such a great show and the audience was lovin' it....Elvis, thanks once again!

Thanks, Martin. Brilliant setlist, of course. What's Help Me Darlin'? Nice to see Honey Hush on it! Does that really mean Honey Hush?

Otis, I think Help Me is the old Sonny Boy Williamson song. Elvis used to tag this onto Detectives in '82/83....if my memory serves me well.

He also used to sing it straight in around 1980.

Honey Hush as in "And it's a high ho silver...doo doo"?? Paul McCartney played that one in Liverpool. A good sing-along song.

It was indeed the SBW song: "Help me now, I can't do it all by myself!"

Sometimes it tells you the truth
Sometimes it delays it"

I always found the SBW original of 'Help Me' quite sinister - maybe an inspiration for 'I Want You' ?
