Tower of Song

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

The horror, the horror.

Jackson: rare slip of standards in taste from you, my man, and lapse into Sun-style cliche. Brilliant innovator with a fantastic voice and loads of great songs to her name.

Poppet: I love the Pet Shop Boys, the 80s era version, anyway.

I seem to remember Gilli entering "The Power of Love" into the first tower. And I wanted to say then that I love that song! My favourite from FGTH.....very "powerful". Also really like Weezers "Hash Pipe". Easy come, easy go on the tower though.

Well I'd been trying to avoid the Tower because it does become obsessive, but here goes...

OUT: Fumbled Priest - In the Middle of your Minefield (without aspirin)

It not a good idea to kick out songs that one doesn't know, but I'll make an exception.

IN: The Kinks - This Time Tomorrow

The Clash - Straight To Hell
Joni Mitchell - This Flight Tonight
The Rolling Stones - Street Fighting Man
The Jam - When You're Young
Dusty Springfield -- The Windmills of Your Mind
Delfonics - Didn't I Blow Your Mind this Time?
Otis Redding - Pain In My Heart
Pet Shop Boys - Rent
Big Star - Thirteen
The Kinks - This Time Tomorrow

That seems fine...

That song is on the edge....such a sense of urgency. Sounds like it could fall apart at any time, but it doesn't. Gives me chills!!

Have you heard his new "electronica" cd?

Was this your reason for adding it?

R&B's John Whitehead shot dead
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- John Whitehead, a prominent R&B artist best known for the 1979 hit song Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, was shot dead Tuesday, police said.

Whitehead, 55, and another man were working on a vehicle when they were shot by two gunmen, police said. The assailants fled.

Whitehead was shot in the neck and collapsed. Ohmed Johnson, who was shot in the buttocks, was in good condition early Wednesday, a hospital spokesman said.

Police said the gunmen fired a series of bullets; a young neighbourhood girl said she heard about a dozen shots.

"Why did they do this to my dad?" Dawn Whitehead, 33, asked at the scene. "I just talked to him yesterday ... He was a fun person. Who would want to kill him?"

Police had no immediate suspects or motive.

Gene McFadden, who was Whitehead's partner in the singing group McFadden & Whitehead, went to the scene in the city's West Oak Lane neighbourhood and stood there trembling, WPVI-TV reported.

The two men formed a group called the Epsilons in their youth and were discovered by Otis Redding, touring with the legendary performer in the 1960s, according to their website.

The duo wrote several hit songs performed by others in the 1970s, including Back Stabbers, For the Love of Money, I'll Always Love My Mamma, Bad Luck, Wake Up Everybody, Where Are All My Friends, The More I Want, and Cold, Cold World.

Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now went to No. 1 on the R&B chart and reached No. 13 on the pop chart. The song became an unofficial anthem for the Philadelphia Phillies as they charged to a World Series championship in 1980 and the Philadelphia Eagles at they reached the Super Bowl in 1981.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.
