What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Beautiful - though all 5 one after the other is a bit heavy going. Was discussing The Jam with a fanatic friend today, and we were salivating over how brilliant Setting Sons is. Weller's in the new Uncut slagging off the cover - I agree! But the music is sublime. Contains some of their very best in Eton Rifles, Thick as Thieves and Wasteland (not to mention Burning Sky, Private Hell and Little Boy Soldiers). If they'd only ever released that LP, that would be enough to immortalise them forever.

25 years after I bought the vinyl Abbey Road I have a CD. Now I wish my Mono Box will arrive from Amazon. I ordered it 09.09.09 and it was shipped one month ago.

The Harder They Come (Soundtrack) is fantastic!

Still this record above. Sort of Band-ish.

Having been lured back over by the thread in the EC section about 'North', I thought I should nip back to my old favourite thread. It's been a while!
Hope everyone's well.
Currently alternating between the wonderful new album by Smiths fans Northern Portrait and A Girl Called Eddy's sole album.
Image
The love of The Smiths is hardly hidden, but it's gloriously jangly pop music nonetheless.
Image
This is a beautifully understated record, produced by Richard Hawley and Colin Elliot from Richard's band. There have been rumours of a second album, but nothing has surfaced.
It led me back to her cover of 'Baby Plays Around' which (shameless link forthcoming) I've just pointed blog readers to a brief free download of, as it's currently out of print. It's a charming reading of a glorious song. The post you need can be found here. Sorry again for the shameless plugging there.
Anyhoo, now that I've remembered what I used to do here, I'll attempt to visit more often again.

I really like that Girl Called Eddy album. It's hard to understand how she has not done another yet.

Playing "Dreaming of You" from their first album on Rock Band encouraged me to pull this out...

Been a while since they released anything new, hasn't it?

Listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' It's Blitz. Heavier on synths than their previous albums, but the whole thing has a tremendous, infectious buzz about it. Good stuff...

Gave my oldest daughter for Christmas a copy of Pearl Jam's latest "Back Spacer"- she was kind enough to let the old man load it on his IPOD. Have been enthralled with Mr. Vedder's voice. What an instrument it is. One song in particular, "Just Breathe", has occupied my listening time. Such a joyous evocation of love. Not generally a fan of throbbing strings in an arrangement but it works here. Should be the wedding song for future generations.
"....there's a merry song that starts in 'I' and ends in 'You', as many famous pop songs do....'
