Excellent! The producer of that tune was married to a great singer/songwriter. What are their names?

Is it Mitchell Froom and Suzanne Vega? Froom often calls in Pete for session work...

What venue were Frank Zappa and The Mothers forced to flee in 1971 when a fire struck, and according to the Deep Purple song about it, what caused the fire?

It was a casino in Montreaux, but I don't know the name. Off hand I can't remember what caused the fire.

I am pretty certain I am correct with the above answer to Boo's question (the lyric of Smoke on the Water mentions Zappa and a flare gun), so in anticipation of a green light I will ask my question now so as not to delay those of you in different time zones (I will be back in about 16 hours, and I know how toey some of you can get if you are forced to wait
).
So without any further ado, the question:
The late Snakefinger, guitarist for the rather exquisite Residents until his untimely death from a stroke, was with which UK band (he was British) in the mid 70's?
Clue: the band in question had a name that is very similar to that of one of the biggest recording and live acts over the past decade.

Indeed you're both right, the Casino at Montreaux is close enough. It was called Casino Montreaux.
Exactly what it was that lit up the ceiling is uncertain, but according to Smoke On The Water, yep Tim(e), it was "some stupid with a flare gun".

Points for everyone!!! Because winning's important. Tim(E)'s questions stands, and I'll guess Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers, purely coz of the name clue.

No. Don't you love those Nesmith songs where the title has nothing to do with the song? Tapioca Tundra, Nine Times Blue, Carlisle Wheeling, Daily Nightly...
I'll give it a few more hours. Here be the clues:

It was "As We Go Along" - a song worth checking out.

Can I answer half of it?
Answer to part one is Richie Valens, the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly, in a plane crash in Wisconsin or South Dakota or some place else.
No idea about part two.
Whoever answers part two has to set the next question!

Who was the first person to record and release Tim Buckleys song Song To The Siren ? The artist heard it from a publishers demo , releasing it a year or two before Tims 1970s studio recording

Too difficult? Hint - it was quite a departure for him , he later shocked his audience with a heavy metal album ( of sorts).
