Songs Steve Nieve Shines In

Post by BrilliantMistake45 »

What are some songs that you think he really shows his talent in? I think these:

The Long Honeymoon (just with EC)
Pump It Up
High Fidelity
The Other End of the Telescope
Pony St.
I wish that I could push a button
And talk in the past and not the present tense
And watch this hurtin' feeling disappear
Like it was common sense
It was a fine idea at the time
Now it's a brilliant mistake

The Loved Ones, a song that Elvis himself has singled out several times as being exemplary playing by Steve.

Since, like Irving Berlin, I love a piano, for me the SN ultimate highlights are the piano-centric "Trust" sessions, including "Black Sails", "SWHOG", "You'll Never Be a Man," "Clubland," "Strict Time" and maybe "Lover's Walk" (though that's pretty much drum-centric).

Also, the Hollywood High "Accident's Will Happen"...

Whilst I agree Steve is to be marvelled at on his recorded contributions, his live contributions are just fantastic. He really lets himself go and isn't afraid to improvise or play whatever he feels like playing. My fave is the November 1994 show when he played the James Bond theme in 13 Steps Lead Down.

Based on the most recent tour I would have to say Peace, Love and Understanding . . .

He really attacked the piano on that one, and it was a beautiful thing.

BlueChair, I agree with you on The Imposter! That is some mighty organ!

And he's pretty good on the keyboards, too!

Seriously, though, I think that and Shot With His Own Gun are my favorite Steve bits.

Wait, so Steve Nieve did play on "How To Be Dumb"?!

Me and my friend listened to that, and we kept saying "that has to be Nieve, that is so him".

I checked the booklet though... and it's not him. =[
