Mine somehow emerged from a conversation a few of us were having a few years ago in the Stamping Ground Elvis Costello Online Chat room at the Elvis Costello Online site - my name managed to go from Tim to Time and it stuck (to this day I can't recall exactly how... but I think puns may have been involved).

Oh, and I think it would be nice if some of us could "meet" in the abovementioned chat room as it would be nice to occassionally have some more immediate interraction.

For years I was just "J" then I qualified and somehow became "DrJ" initially as a joke, but it took, people do call me "DrJ" outside of this forum.

For whatever reason, "Bob" is never available as a username (there's always another "Bob" you know). So, I've just taken to using "Bobster" or "Bobster" plus my zipcode.

Ok, this is a little drawn out, but...

A good friend of mine (roommates in college, he was a groomsman in my wedding, etc) was visiting his oldest friend, who was working in Kazakstan. I figured he would be there for a while and, seeing that he only speaks English, I thought he might like to hear something familiar. So I made him a mix tape, comprised mainly of songs, but also with a few bits that I wrote and recorded. Just funny stuff, most of which were inside jokes that only he and I would get. Like taking the Wilco song "Casino Queen" and overdubbing the words "White Trash" over "casino" every time it came up in the song. A reference to someone we knew in college that we called the White Trash Queen behind her back. I was writing the song list down on the folded insert, and when I'd get to a skit, I couldn't think of what to name them, so I just wrote "noise." And it occured to me that the whole thing was like a commercial-free radio program--the kind I wish actually played on the radio. So I titled it "Noise Radio."

He got home before it was finished, but I sent it anyway. I ended up making a series of 6 of them and sending them over the course of the next couple of years, all Noise Radio vol. whatever. Starting with number 4, the skits and songs had themes. (Answering machine messages, songs that were so bad they were good, songs that don't suck, etc.)

I was halfway through a really promising volume 7 ("House Unamerican Activities Comittee" comprised of non-English songs and skits about the ugly American) but never actually finished or sent it. I keep meaning to, but that was 1998, so I probably won't. Anyway, at that time, I was working at a school district that was putting the Internet in every classroom, and every teacher was getting an email account. We were supposed to choose a login name. They suggested using our last names and first names in some combination, but my last name has 11 letters and my first name 7, which I didn't want to type all the time. So I used noiseradio, which was intended to be temporary, but which stuck. Outside of cyberspace, no one callse me noiseradio.

pip = a character from Great Expectations, which I read in the 9th grade shortly before opening an email account. 52 is just a number cause apparently there are a lot of pips out there. I dont know what happened to the other 51 . . .

But since then I generally use it when I have to register for anything online, cause if I used a different name every time then I would be forever forgetting who I am and I just dont want to have to deal with that kind of identity crisis . . .

The song "Little Savage" works on too many levels for me. Consequently, the screen names was derived from it. It is intended both as both a reality and a satirical moniker. In natural fact, I am far more than 1.645 standard deviations from the mean, so it is intended more satirically.

I have no confidence interval. Never will. And for those of you who are with me on this, shoot me if I ever do..........

Verbal is self explanatory although I think it's usually meant in a spoken way. Technically am I speaking verbally by typing this?

I am actually speaking this in my head as I type.

Gymnastics comes from my deep rooted love of Olga Korbut and Nadia Komeneci who I fell in love with whilst watching the olympics as a small peasant boy in an unnamed Communist country.

Really mine is cuz when my hair gets a little longer (go a couple extra weeks without getting it cut) it had a tendency to make two little tufts poke up, causing me to have what appears to be devils horns sticking out of my head....silly I know...

Spooky Girlfriend, obviously from When I Was Cruel. DrS bought the cd before I became an Elvis fan and, after playing it several times in the car, that was a song that really stuck with both of us. He would always give me this cheesy little grin when he sang the words. So, when I joined the forum, that's what I used.

Misha: My real name is also Michele, and no doubt, there are a lot of us from that era because of the infamous song from the Beatles.

I know a couple of these, I think. Otis Westinghouse gets his name from a Otis Westinghouse & the Lifts, a travelling name EC & the Attractions sometimes used on the road to mask their true identity.

Lapinsjolie means "Pretty Rabbits," and since she has several pretty rabbits, I'm going to guess that's the reason she chose that name.

That's pretty close Noiseradio and follows logic. Thank you for thinking my rabbits are pretty. The whole truth is far too boring and I haven't told it. Inside jokes usually are. I HATE my screen name. But alas it's too hard to change.

I should have named myself-Heybeletbrillant. So I'd get an ego boast every time I was addressed. Cheap yes but effective.
