i wrote this song two hours before we met...

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Meta-songs. You know, in which the singer refers to the song that they are in the process of singing.

ya know, I am really bad at these kind of reindeer games so I never participate, but dammit, this time I had a song. And rope stole it.

I talked to god and she gave me a hint.

smiling and waving and looking so fine,
don't think you knew you were in this song....

Five Years, David Bowie.

(and god, if I screwed it up, forgive me)
Like me, the "g" is silent.

Hey, Mood, I'll bet you never heard this one...

Fish On (Fishermen's Chronicle, Part1) by Primus

Felt a pang late one afternoon
I was fishin' off muir beach
With larry lalonde
Grabbed a tuna salad sandwich
And i started to chew
Pretty soon ler's yellin
Fish on. fish on

I was just a little pup
And it was derby day
Was dad and me and darrell
Out in san pablo bay
Taco flavored doritos
And my orange life vest
Dad caught a hundred pound sturgeon
On twenty-pound test
Now he fought that fish for an hour
And a half
Darrell'd say "jump ya sons a bitch!"
And he grabbed for the gaff
When we got him in the boat
He measured six feet long
I was so danged impressed i had
To write a song called
Fish on

T'was a bright and sunny day
It was me and todd huth
Fishin' shark & stingray
Out of bohuas lagoon
Well hey, hey, hey i'll be screwed,
Blued and tatooed
Looks like i got me one of them fish on
Fish on.

Okay, I don't mean to be petty, but I really do think that the song I put in the title of the thread should be counted as taken. By me.

Is this eligible?

-Artist: The Who Lyrics
Song: Getting in Tune Lyrics

I'm singing this note 'cause it fits in well
With the chords I'm playing
I can't pretend there's any meaning here
Or in the things I'm saying

But I'm in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you
Right in on you
Right in on you

I get a little tired of having to say
"Do you come here often?"
But when I look in your eyes and see the harmonies
And the heartaches soften

I'm getting in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you

I've got it all here in my head
There's nothing more needs to be said
I'm just bangin' on my old piano
I'm getting in tune with the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune with the straight and narrow)
Getting in tune with the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune with the straight and narrow)
Yeah, I'm getting in tune with the straight and narrow
(Getting in tune with the straight and narrow)

I'm singing this note 'cause it fits in well
With the way I'm feeling
There's a symphony that I hear in your heart
Sets my head a-reeling

But I'm in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you (right in on you)
Right in on you

Baby, with you
Baby, with you
Baby, with you
Baby, with you
Baby, with you

I've got it all here in my head
There's nothing more needs to be said
I'm just bangin' on my old piano
I'm getting in tune with the straight and narrow

Getting in tune with the straight and narrow [repeat]

ooh ooh....the theme song to THE GARY SHANDLING SHOW, anyone remember this work of comedy genius...?

This is the theme to Gary's show.
The theme to Garry's show.
Garry called me up and asked
Would I write his theme song?
I'm almost half-way finished,
How do you like it so far?
How do you like the theme to Garry's show?

This is the theme to Garry's show.
The opening theme to Garry's show.
This is the music that you hear
As you watch the credits.
We're almost at the part
Where I will start to whistle
Then we'll watch "It's Garry Shandling's Show"

(whistle whistle whistle whistle)
(whistle whistle whistle whistle)
Now it's time for Garry Shandling's Show.

"Baby it's up to you" is what she's actually saying, "about how many times you wanta see me and all that--but I want to be independent, like I say".

And I go home having lost her love.

And write this book.

I got songs, too!

Post by A rope leash »

Artist: Graham Parker
Album: Burning Questions
Title: Too Many Knots To Untangle

I don't understand telepathy, but i am thinking of you
I am going to get my feelings across the gulf that divides me and you
Cos when the doors get locked and the windows are shuttered
The oaths get broken and the curses are muttered
And every emotion's confused and cluttered
There's nothing to stop us from burning out, just like a candle,
With too many knots to untangle

I know there's a better world somewhere you've just got to take a look
Yeah but unfortunately it's in the pages of a kid's storybook
Does your daddy look down on us and say this is wrong
Will your mother figure me out from the words in this song
Did you prefer the guy who was hung like king kong

Well i just wanna feel your curves again when they're not at right angles
With too many knots to untangle

The rusted remains of an automobile
Sits out in the backyard with only one wheel
Ignored and deserted you know how it feels

Yeah its a random universe, there is no plan involved
We just bounce around like rubber balls and sometimes nothing gets solved
Do you know these people the chances are slim
Even their shadows are wearing thin and you're not her and i'm not him
But i don't wanna tie you up any more and leave you to dangle,
With too many knots to untangle

Sonnet 18

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

I write the songs that make the whole world sing,
I write the songs of love and special things,
I write the songs that make the young girls cry,
I write the songs, I write the songs.

I always chuckle when I listen to 'I'm The Man Who Murdered Love'. In the middle of the song Andy actually sings 'Oh, it's the middle of the song.'

Ah, Rope, you quoted Shakespeare. I see a whole other side of you now.

Just thought of this one:

To All The Girls I've Loved Before - Willie Nelson

"To all the girls I've loved before
Who travelled in and out my door
I'm glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before"
