A rundown Grade II-listed seaside pier in north Wales has been taken over by the local authority.
Conwy council said it was the new owner of Colwyn Bay's 112-year-old Victoria pier, after the Welsh government acquired it from the Crown Estate.
Funding will now be sought to redevelop the landmark which once hosted performers such as Morecambe and Wise, Harry Secombe and Elvis Costello
The pier has been shut since its former owner was made bankrupt in July 2008.
A consultation on multi-million pound plans for the pier's redevelopment was launched in November 2011.
The proposals for pier, which opened in June 1900, included a restaurant, revamped pavilion theatre and shops.

Saw this in the soaraway-givaway-Metro this morning:
Sir Peter Blake reinvents Sgt Pepper album cover with his own inspirations: http://www.metro.co.uk/news/894889-sir- ... spirations
Elvis looms large at the front in My Aim era pose, annother one for the CV " I inspired Sir Peter Blake". S
Some are from the more predictable suspects - John Peel, Paul McCartney, Vivien Westwood - and a few suprises - Wreckless Eric and Fanny Cradock anyone?
Video link may be worth exploring?

When my local news station (Channel 4 -Dallas) came on this morning, they opened the broadcast with "Welcome to the Working Week".
The weatherman said something like..."That's a fitting song for a Monday morning. That was Elvis Costello"
Not often Elvis gets a shout out on a local news station in TX.

Last night's episode of Coronation Street included the line " I remember when we saw Elvis Costello at the Apollo". For those who don't know it Coronation Street is based in Manchester. And Elvis is playing at the Apollo tonight! The writer must be a fan.
Re: Elvis when you least expect it
In Halifax Morrison's (supermarket) on Sunday they were playing The Beat over the sound system - which surprised me - then an announcement came over the loudspeaker: "Could James Costello please go to Customer Services." Spooky huh?

I watched The Simpsons tonight for the first time in ages. The story was about Marge, Lisa and Bart becoming foodies.
On their blog, Lisa lists one of her "Cutest vegetarians" as Elvis Costello.

This happened awhile back, but I was listening Red Shoes on the way to eat lunch with my dear mother. When we got to the restaurant and took our seats in the back ground I hear Red Shoes coming over the speakers.
I thought it was pretty cool and slightly creepy at the same time haha.

Starbucks seem to be playing 'Everyday I write the Book' whenever I'm in. Either that or I just hear Elvis all the time

During my trip last month me and Yanyna were at a record shop in Berlin. There was a radio show being broadcasted and someone was being interviewed. I don't speak a word of german but at some point the guy who was being interviewd asked for "Watching the Detectives". Yanyna had just found a copy of Blood & Chocolate and she thought this was a sign she should buy it. :p

The current activities in London challenge the creativity of the media. The Swedish national radio have created a Top 70- Best London songs. On place 31 suddenly EC appears with Hoover Factory.

The countdown continues and I really assume that I dont wanna go to Chelsea shows up a bit higher on the list. I have Little hope for Londons Brilliant Parade or Londons Brilliant.

It seems that Gert Thomas, who writes for BBC TV medical drama Holby City, is a fan.

My Ma loves Holby City - I'll ask her why she hasn't copped this - it's not good enough!
