Tower of Songwriters

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Jackie Leven was in a band in the late 70's/early 80's called Doll By Doll and now tours as a solo artist - I recommend the Doll By Doll album "Gypsy Blood".

Carolyn Mark is an extremely talented, wickedly funny singer/songwriter out of Vancouver who is best known (if at all, really) as one half of The Corn Sisters along with Neko Case. I saw her play at a roots & blues festival in Calgary last year and she had that sort of onstage charisma where you couldn't take your eyes off her and as a songwriter she does a terrific job of blending old school country with a lot of smartass irony and barbed introspection. I only have one cd by her, Terrible Hostess, but I listen to it quite frequently and almost always use it for mix tape fodder to introduce other people to her stuff.
