About our wonderful selves - answer a question and ask one

If you are ever attacked yell as loud as you can. I was on a lonely stairwell in a block of flats, when a guy came up behind me pushed me against the wall and put his hand up my skirt. I yelled as loud as I could and scared the shit out of him and fortunately he ran off. Lucky escape.

If you had a fire (god forbid) and could only save one item from your house (not family of course!) what would it be and why?

The carved wood sculpture from Zimbabwe we call 'Naomi Campbell'. It has voodoo qualities.

Have you danced naked yet, Mug? No, save the naked dancing and loud music until tonight. You could write in the meantime.

Not a shot, Mood. A true predicament involving a friend of my mother's.

If you had to be chained to one person from the board for 24 hours, who would it be and why?

Otis, cause I have a lot of grammatical points I've been meaning to ask him about. 24 hours would probably cover it...

Same question to others, cause it's too good to drop...

RedShoes, because she's cute.

Same question to another person.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

PoP, is that Dolly circa the Porter years? two words about mississippi: William Faulkner. or better yet, Eudora Welty. and don't let me forget Payton Manning. I just have a sentimental attachment to the place.

are you ready for the Brood X invasion?

Brood X are periodic cicadas. They come out of the ground by the billions every 17 years, and this is the 17th year. They will probably come out in the next week or two. They are huge, gruesome things with giant red eyes, and the noise they make, collectively, is said to rival lawnmowers and aircraft. Then they mate and lay eggs in trees about 6 weeks later, and then the larvae or whatever they are at that point drop out of the trees and burrow back into the ground, to await the next 17-year cycle. Our local bug guy said there will about 500 pounds of bugs per quarter-acre. The good news is that they reportedly taste like asparagus!

I will be staying indoors for the six weeks after they come out, so you could say, no, I am not ready for Brood X.

It's a comfortable cream wide-brimmed canvas cricket hat. It's got a tie-down string that adjusts and it's stiff enough that it doesn't flap around in the wind, so I can take it to the beach by push-bike.

Ok, can you describe the weather as it is right now?

Clear blue sky, temperature in the mid-teens, in other words a beautiful early summer Sunday in Dublin. I'm off to Herbert Park.

For my money, Steve Forbert has yet to release a bad album. I like Jackrabbit Slim best simply because "Romeo's Tune" is such an irresistible slice of 70's radio heaven.

Among others, BRIGHT AS YELLOW by The Innocence Mission, and WHEN I GET TO THE BORDER by R&L Thompson.

Oh God, I seldom ever follow a recipe to spec. I have catered for over 400 people at some events and I know what goes into the things I cook and I just wing amounts a lot of the time. I do it on a much smaller scale at home as well. I even just make up recipes or make changes to other recipes as I cook them. Drives DrS nuts - he's a stickler for directions.

Last night's sleep was good, with the added bonus of a very lovely dream. I'd tell but I can't.

Apple Martin. A good choice or just another stupid celebrity name?

I don't know who Apple Martin is, so it's hard to say. Perhaps it fits her (I assume) personality. But, without any information, I'd have to say poor choice. Unless she's a porn star.

When on vacation, do you prefer a strict schedule of activities, or would you rather leave it more fluid and open to change?

Oh my, I just realized who Apple Martin is, and that I hung a moniker like 'porn star' on an infant! My apologies.

However, I stick by my judgement of poor choice.

Yes, fair dues to him for spreading contempt of Bush and justly ridiculing his country's clown of a president. He deserves all the kicking he can get.

(And, to add to the above, Apple Martin is a crap name, just cos they're in Hello etc., why can't they stick to normal people's names? It's such a crap badge of celebrity, Brooklyn/Romeo, Peaches, Fifi Trixibelle, etc.)

What's the all-time best sauce to serve with pasta? (An especially enthusiastic responder may cite up to three types of pasta if they wish, as we all know that certain sauces were destined to be wedded to certain pastas.)

I'd like to respond to Otis' question with some sincerity, if that would be alright.

Best sauce for linguine: Littleneck clams freshly plucked from the sea, steamed, coarsely chopped and then quickly sauteed with garlic, lemon and white wine. Heaven on a plate.

My latest favorite: Boil asparagus (or for Mood Swung, cicadas) chunks till very tender, then puree them with some olive oil and lemon zest. Toss it around in a hot pan for a few minutes with whatever pasta you like. Sounds simple, and it is, but it has a surprisingly complex taste.
