They may as well be Canadian.

And where were The Eagles or The Doors? Actually, I prefer the Doobie Brothers (sans Michael McDonald) to both of those.

Proves my point - no credibility. The original Doobies were infinitely better.

You may be confusing them with Canadian cockrockers Bachman Turner Overdrive...

For the record, I can't stand The Doors or The Eagles ('cept for a couple of songs and I'm not going to say which ones :) ).

Ha ha - not sure I would catagorize BTO as "cockrockers" - they were stout, had beards and wore winter coats on stage (its cold in Manitoba)...and some of them used to be in the Guess Who.

Not in the well known long-haired sleazy glam sense but in the generic-70's-footstompin'-boogie any-lovin's-good-lovin' type.

God knows I am. Sadly it would take about 10,000 more doobies to forget the Doobies, so often are we reminded of them on American radio.

Blue Oyster Cunt? Dont diss the Cult!

Blue Oyster Cult were/are fantastic - Dont Fear the Reaper contains perhaps the greatest guitar riff of all time. I swear the curtains blow back and the windows blow open every time I play that song.

The Guess Who were great too.

I adore that song too. It was my 'summer of '78' song. Just turned 14, and it was so cool-sounding, I had to play 10 times a day. Then I got into the Buzzcocks and Elvis and realised it wasn't where it was at. Still love to hear it, though.

So, despite my Muggish resistance to listmaking, I got curious as to whether I could even make such a list, so I counted up all the American artists in my collection of whom I would consider myself a fan. Out of 359 artists in my iTunes, I barely came up with 60. Of course, those compilations distort the numbers a bit. But still, I'd have to have a lot of repeats.

Okay, so I just did the same thing for British artists, and I came up with about half that number. Which was a surprise. I had no idea my record collection was so chauvinistic--if there were ever a rumble, the Americans would totally kick ass. Unless the actual albums were fighting each other, in which case I think my semi-compulsive completism vis-à-vis the Clash, PJ Harvey, Pulp, Belle & Sebastian and that other guy I like would probably decide the day. Now I'm looking at my CD collection and fearing for all the innocent European and Canadian bystanders. I think I need to go lie down for a spell.

The Guess WHo had a brilliant golden throat in Burton Cummings and a string of great songs. Between the hits on their albums were some ver ambitious projects...not just pop fluff filler. Good stuff for a while.
