Just reading this interesting Sean O'Hagan interview with EC at the time of Spike from the NME:

Don't quite get why listening to Michael Blair's percussion made him think about Spike Jones.
Like the suggestion of 'Spike: The Beloved Entertainer' with Spike as verb.
Cait pregnant? Have I missed something? Did she lose it? Had she been attacking the cream buns too much at the time?

Ah, for the days when a new EC record was an EVENT to be anxiously covered by the music press, and analyzed and probed by critics as something of major importance to pop. Somewhere around 'The Juliet Letters' EC lost that kind of currency. Oh, well.
