Baby

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

A song tha gets my jugular in terms of family/kids/relationships is Christy Moore's The Voyage:

I am a sailor, you're my first mate
We signed on together, we coupled our fate
Hauled up our anchor, determined not to fail
For the hearts treasure, together we set sail

With no maps to guide us we steered our own course
Rode out the storms when the winds were gale force
Sat out the doldrums in patience and hope
Working together we learned how to cope

Chorus:
Life is an ocean and love is a boat
In troubled water that keeps us afloat
When we started the voyage, there was just me and you
Now gathered round us, we have our own crew

Together we're in this relationship
We built it with care to last the whole trip
Our true destination's not marked on any charts
We're navigating to the shores of the heart

I love the chorus musially and lyrically, and I often think of my brood with the word 'crew' in mind.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

James Taylor from Gorilla:

"Sarah Maria"

A beautiful lullaby that he wrote for his infant daughter. Simple, pure, and unforgettable. I changed the name to match my daughters and sang it to her often as an infant. She hums it even today, 14 years old, even though she has never heard the actual recording...by design.

She likes her version.

I am not an Enya fan at all, but I cannot tell you how helpful she was to my wife and I when my colicy infant daughter (many years ago) would fight sleep. The song Carribean Blue repeated over and over until she drifted off to a sound sleep, and to associate any melody with the peaceful and angelic look of a baby asleep in her Mothers arms is a good thing.
