What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Red Hot Moon is today's theme song.
That one would have been a hit for sure if they hadn't made a depressing grey dawn/daylight video.

(Most fellow Rancid fans I know were disappointed when the record was released because the guitars aren't loud enough in the mix, which is true, but how can anyone let that get in the way of killer songs, ie. 14/19 or so.)

El Vez, I am enjoying Couples in Trouble very much, thank YOU very much.

KH, I never saw a video for Red Hot Moon, but it is a fantastic song on an album of pretty darn good songs.

GBV, couldn't agree with you more. Art Brut might be a novelty, but they are pretty darn funny. And fun is what it's all about.

Oooooo, Chrille, I am so with you on that. Love love love this album, and the remastered edition is perfection itself, isn't it?

Yeah I'm listening to underground 90's albums at the moment. Kind of hard to get used to. Example: Slanted and Enchanted by Pavement. Bery weird.

The Loaf is just not as Loafy these days. I miss the extra 85 pounds and the tuxedo shirt and suspenders.

Really terrific album, even better than Blacklisted, which is saying a lot. It's really been a banner year for women singer/songwriters - Jenny Lewis, Cat Power and now this.

Neko Case is the shit, isn't she? I'm really diggin' on Fox Confessor as well and I am amazed at how much she continues to grow and develop from record to record. Furnace Room Lullaby is still my fave because it was my first but this is a phenomenal record.

WSS - I highly recommend you check out Carolyn Mark sometime. She's worked with Neko frequently (they even had a one-off together called The Corn Sisters) and she's a great, smartass singer/songwriter herself. The Pros & Cons of Collaboration and Terrible Hostess in particular are just wonderful records.

Thanks Vez. Will keep an eye out for that. I just love the unexpected lyrical and musical twists on this new one. Amazing voice too.

I got the N.C album just yesterday and I really like it. I like her work with the New Pornographers as well, love her voice.

Right now I'm listening to:

Got this yesterday as well. It's nice. Havn't listened to anything else by Zappa besides this.

Ah, you warm my heart. Spoon, like the Decemberists, are one of the bands I got to see early on and were my Band Of Destiny - the band you catch early on before a lot of people and just KNOW they're gonna get big. I saw them open for GBV 4 or 5 different times - Austin 97, Philly 98, SXSW 99, Dallas 2001, saw them on their own right before the Elektra debacle in 98, and saw Britt solo 4 or 5 times, including last week at SXSW. If any band deserves any amount of success, it's them. You can't ever say they haven't paid their dues, and they are the nicest guys in the world. I think EC fans would especially love Girls Can't Tell, but I'm aprtial to the more edgy Series of Sneaks. Gimme Fiction is full of great songs too.

Anywhoo, currently listening to Love's Forever Changes.

Lovely little ep that opens with a great cover of Otis Blackwell's Handyman, and I love this version of The Man Who Was Too Loud (about Jonathan Richman, for all you trivia fans out there).

Whilst I've been off jetsetting around the country on business (HA!) I've been playing the whole of Billy Bragg's Volume 1 box set which is fantastic. There are a number of unreleased gems but, as with these box sets, you can see why certain songs were never released.

Having been Bragged out I am now listening to the Arctic Monkeys' debut album which is worth the hype (there are so many songs I can relate to!) and Kaiser Chiefs Employment.
