Morrissey Strikes Again

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

I'm long time (long suffering) Moz fan since I bought Interesting Drug on cassingle when it came out on a lark. Then dug into the Smiths and his solo catalog. Saw him twice live, both in Houtson, one for the Kill Uncle tour, one for the Arsenal tour. My fandom waned at various points. Kill Uncle was really blah, and I had no expectations, and thus blown away by arsenal. Moz had balls again. Then Vauxhall which wasn't instantly as great, but keeps growing on me over the years. Then all the halfassed comps (World Of Moz especially) and Southpaw which was interesting but not too many highlights (drum solo? WTF?!)

For me, Quarry is a good album, but not great. it seemed to be almost a calculated and safe album to get him back in the public eye. and what I hoped seemes to be coming true, that it would allow Moz to come back and make a truly daring record again, maybe his masterpiece.

For me Quarry was one of those lovely records that you want/need too hear more the more you played it, and it was good the whole way through. I had the whole LP in my head for a long time. Loved Vauxhall the same way. Arsenal is very good too, great testament to Ronno, but for me National Front Disco is unacceptable, as was Bengali In Platforms and those moments are scars in his history.

Loved that interview, Mike. Even as interviewer, Moz is rivetting. 'Would you eat your cats?'!

14th May, 21st May, 28th May at the London Palladium? Just missing 7th and then Morrissey would have emulated our Elvis' feat to the dates back in 1989. Of which I went to all four.

Only those dates went on sale yesterday. 27th for rest. All sold out straight away, of course, as will every other one. Will plan to be on phone at 9 next Fri for King's Lynn. I've heard it's a good venue. Their answerphone announces straight off that if you're after Moz, you have to wait. They've probably never had their phone ringing so much. I imagine lots thought all tickets were on sale yesterday.

That means I'll have to brave the crowds and go to this thang this year.
Bah - I would rather he just play a nice comfy gig at the Bass Performance Hall.

Wonder if this is album cover art?

Don't know if it's legal or not, but one of music blogs has "I Will See You In Far Off Places" from the upcoming album available for download here :
http://boyandblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/ ... girls.html

I like the song a lot ! At first listen sound much denser and guitar-heavier than You Are The Quarry (or indeed most of his solo stuff).
Enjoy !

Tickets for the Irish dates go on sale in the morning, but I couldn't be bothered getting Dublin tickets. They'll love him in Killarney. I was rather underwhelmed by his appearance at Dublin Castle in '04, it wasn't a patch on the Olympia show in circa. '99. At that show the Mozter spotted the Foyle twins in the front row of the balcony and he and his guitarist were hilariously gobsmacked. Maybe that's why he gave me a weird look when I nearly bumped into him going into the Irish Film Centre that time.....

Im sure Ive told this story before but I'll tell it again - I once bumped into him at Smiths Bookstore in Chelsea of all places - he was wearing a rather dapper blue hat - he bought some magazines and hurried out again.

Appearently he's playing in town on the 1st of April but they havn't announced any ticketrelease info yet. I will most likely see him unless something comes in the way.

Gotta catch up with more of Morrissey's solo albums.

Spoiler !!!!!

Just heard another song from the album, Dear God Please Help Me, and I'm not impressed at all. Too long, too bland, too maudlin.
Strings may save it from oblivion and, who knows, maybe the song will grow on me but for now I don't like it.

If you want to hear it go to the same blog as before.

We seem to have very similar musical tastes IP but no, no , no!!!
This is wonderful wonderful wonderful - beautiful production and strings from Visconti and beautiful organ - Morrissey at his ultimate crooning best. Far better than anything on Quarry on which I thought the production sucked despite the great songs - all those horrible synths instead of real strings, but THIS!!THIS IS MORE LIKE IT. I LOVE IT. This will be his greatest solo album and without a doubt a classic.

I'll sure give it another try.
Maybe the excellent, but quite "hard-rocking", sound of I Will See You In Far Off Places made me expect something else.

I like it, but it's not as good as the other 2 I've heard. But this one does have the line about powder kegs between his legs!
