Elvis Costello: Solo - Hits & Headlines / Waifs & Strays: For the Benefit of The Musician Treatment Foundation
Elvis Costello has announced a solo concert to raise start-up funding for The Musician Treatment Foundation, a new Austin-based nonprofit aiming to create a future in which musicians from Austin and beyond can receive restorative treatment regardless of their ability to pay. The two-hour concert, “Hits & Headlines / Waifs & Strays: For the Benefit of The Musician Treatment Foundation” will take place in Austin, TX at the Paramount Theatre on Sunday, October 22. General admission and VIP tickets will go on-sale August 25th and are available at mtfusa.org.
Costello says: "It is always a pleasure to play for my friends in Austin and to do so in support of this fine new initiative will only make the occasion more unique. I never like to take my best known songs for granted and prefer to earn the right to sing them again in the company of songs that may be new to your ears but have become extremely vivid to me in my recent performances. As the title of the show suggests, this is an evening of heart and humour. There will be something for everyone.”
The Musician Treatment Foundation founder Alton Barron, MD says: "It is a great honor to have Elvis playing such an integral part in this new effort to help musicians and keep the music playing. His grace, humility, and strong belief in our mission is an inspiration to us all. Elvis Costello and Diana Krall are making our hopes for needful musicians an exciting reality!"
The nonprofit Musician Treatment Foundation is devoted to the healthcare needs of professional musicians. This nonprofit is the first of its kind, in design, scope, and breadth, dedicated to the upper limb problems of musicians. The foundation aims to facilitate and fund direct orthopedic specialty care for under- and uninsured musicians, educate the public on how to minimize or prevent musician-specific injuries, conduct and publish research on the unique diagnostic and treatment issues facing all musicians, and build a digital platform and surgeon network to care for musicians regardless of where they are touring in the world. Started by a longtime friend of Costello’s, orthopedic surgeon O. Alton Barron MD, it is overseen by a 14-member board of volunteers from the business, music, and healthcare professions including Costello and his wife, musician Diana Krall.

Sounds like the first show of what may become the replacement of DETOUR in his solo tour history. And so fresh behind his October 18 nyc Bonnie RAITT celebration. Good wishes to all who will attend.

I note that the Platinum and Premium donation packages ($5,000 and $2,500 respectively) come with an autographed Diana Krall CD, but no Elvis merchandise - other than a "Photo with Elvis".
Presumably someone has advised that autographed DK CDs have a higher value than EC's own.

It does seem that way although Elvis implies it's a solo outing of the Imperial Bedroom and Other Chambers shows with some hits thrown in for good measure.bronxapostle wrote:Sounds like the first show of what may become the replacement of DETOUR in his solo tour history.

I read that in the sentence about songs being new to your ears but vivid to him in recent performances. My thoughts were that this meant the songs from the Imperial Bedroom and Other Chambers tour. My logic about the hits is where he says there'll be something for everyone.

Got ya. Open to interpretation i guess. I was thinking that sentence implied the FACE IN THE CROWD songs. Well, let's see what October brings. For selfish reasons, I am more concerned what he does four days earlier in NYC.
p.s. listening to my first ever digital, from COOPERSTOWN. This BEDLAM was phenomenal...but, isn't it ALWAYS? check it out if you can.

It's definitely open to interpretation - one thing I've learnt from Elvis over the years is that things are sometimes rarely what they seem!

good one doc. TEXAS probably wouldn't know a soccer ball if it fell from the heavens. I would venture a guess that between POP Warner, high school and all the colleges, that more FOOTBALL (USA PROPER) games are played there weekly than any other united state.

I have to admit after 20 years in the USA I slipped by saying football. I should have said American or college footbalL.
I promised my self 2 things when getting citizenship 3 years ago.
1....i would never call "Football" soccer
2...i would only ever use the word Awesome to describe the grand canyon, nothing else is worth describing as awesome.

81 Elvis shows fr me and this was top 5, on excellent form in his anecdotes. Mexican Divorce and Toledo were special but i have a soft spot for Mr Bacarach. Also Radio Soul full version. New song Adieu Paris. Lovely venue but why do people go to these shows and talk all night! The 5 Elvis signed albums i had on my twitter sold for $1050.
