Anyone feel able or willing to predict "guest" appearances at this, or any of the other RAH dates this week? Of the usual suspects:
Martin Belmont is touring Sweden from Wednesday (!)
The Bible Code Sundays are playing a pub in central London on Wednesday night, but might make it from there to the RAH by 10pm, they are free on Tuesday and Thursday;
Russell Crowe seems to be safely Down Under;
Chris Difford is available;
Nick Lowe looks to be available;
Glenn Tilbrook is also available;
Alex Turner is available, but might prefer the Sheffield or York shows.
Any other offers?

I think that those of us attending the first of the London gigs are fortunate that EC has a night off tonight (Monday). I don't wish to sound negative but there did seem to be a few points during the Bristol show where he could not quite conjour up the 'mighty voice'. I really enjoyed the show and he was in very good spirit with the usual belter of an opening, the first spin was I Want You and I'm not sure that he had mentally or vocally prepared himself for that to appear at such an early stage. The start was distinctly 'wobbly' and at the end you could almost see him battling with his own thoughts as whether or not to end it with the usual high scream of "I Want You". He opted not to. Also one spin produced the result Motel Matches which I think he possibly deliberatly delayed playing until later in the set until he felt he could achieve the neccessary vocal.
By the finale and Chelsea he seemed to be a different man. He was suddenly 'strong' again and you got the feeling that from then on he could have played all night, he also seemed to be visibly moved in a heart-warming sort of way when a young boy came up onto the stage, (possibly as he was about the same age as his twins), and allowed him a post-finale spin and song choice.
Please don't think I'm being cruel or unjust, I'm a life-long fan and really enjoyed the show, these are just my thoughts and observations and I'm really looking forward to the Albert Hall and future shows

Agree with you Little, hopefully he's resting his voice, which he does cane on tour - he'll never learn I think, the passion is always there though. If he will insist on marathon shows with a lot of full on singing and emoting, giving us more than our money's worth etc, what does he expect! Which reminds me, I must get some sleep before the show too...

As it is my birthday today and I am an ocean away, I am counting on the London contingent to request a song for me. You Tripped at Every Step would be my choice but I'll take anything. Do it!

VG always seems to be the man most likely to be picked and yet the hostesses veer away from him, ( ) but if my time comes, You Tripped seems like a brilliant choice, and I'll do my best !

I cant believe Elvis is playing three London shows and I won't be at any of them. Saving it for my hometown Southend.
Have a great night everyone

By most I take it what everyone else would define as "least"!sulky lad wrote:VG always seems to be the man most likely to be picked and yet the hostesses veer away from him, ( ) but if my time comes, You Tripped seems like a brilliant choice, and I'll do my best !
Women in general tend to veer away from me. And when they come up and dance with me they move away even quicker. Sad but true

(He's the reviewer for the Daily Telegraph.)I'll be interested to read reviews of Elvis cos other reviewers left at 1st encore but he's still on 45 mins later.
Tramp The Dirt Down, Shipbuilding, Alison, Less Than Zero, Pump It Up, Peace Love & Steve Naïve on the Royal organ. There is only 1 Elvis.
Re: Elvis & The Imposters play RAH, London 4 June '13
Tonight's set list.
I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down
High Fidelity
Uncomplicated
Radio Radio
Spin 1 Clubland
Spin 2 Bedlam
Spin 3 I Want You
Then played Oliver's Army without the "spinner" spinning the wheel. It was a request for her dad who was ill with cancer.
Spin 4 (or 5 whichever you look at it) Double Spin
A River In Reverse and "Joanna"
"Joanna" consisted of All Grown Up, I Still Have That Other Girl and She.
And then the "new" category "Clowns and Fiddlers" which Elvis chose himself. This featured the young Kendel Carson, a violinist.
The Other End Of The Telescope
Sulphur To Sugarcane
Good Year For The Roses
A Slow Drag With Josephine
Watching The Detectives
Encore
Lipstick Vogue
another spin of the wheel - Jackpot
I Hope You're Happy Now
Chelsea
Alison (which included the words to both "Over The Rainbow" and "There's A Place" sung to Alison's melody)
Red Shoes
Less Than Zero
Shipbuilding
Tramp The Dirt Down
Peace Love & Understanding included the "hammer" segment ( a very young girl took 3 attempts to hit the bell) and Steve Nieve on the church organ.
Jimmie Standing In The Rain
Pump It Up
All told a 2hour 40 minute gig.
The concert was troubled with sound problems on Costello's guitar right from the first song, Costello mentioned this on numerous occasions.
He also effectively told some people who were bellowing during his introduction to "Tramp The Dirt Down" to shut up, at least until he'd finished.
He introduced the band, not once but 3 times.
Thank you and goodnight.

Elvis Costello was absolutely incredible. I don't even know what was the best part.
Opening with I Can't Stand Up & High Fidelity or when he played Oliver's Army specifically for a girl on stage who had cancer. Nearly gret.
The whole of the Albert Hall clapping in time and "Aaaalison" echoing around the venue in unison.
...or the the speech before, and the fact he even played, Tramp the Dirt Down and the standing ovation he got for doing so.
Or THE BEST FUCKING ENCORE IN THE HISTORY OF ENCORES.
The best had to be when you could hear a pin drop as he sang Brother, Can You Spare A Dime? without a mic, though. Goosebumps.
Point is, that was incredible. Gutted I'm not going to Edinburgh to see what he plays there. Wine at the hotel then bed. I'm done in.
