He played it at Lake Compounce in CT in '89 as well. I seem to recall that he played the final triangle note himself.

I don't know about live versions, but that's an interesting song. Typical of Spike in throwing a continent of different sounds at you, all dementedly mashed together, it's one of his niftier storytelling conceits - the idea that the witch down the lane really is a witch down the lane. Kinda neat.

Always thought he got the tone write in that last verse in the song just as if the so named lady were reciting to herself rather than reading and contemplating a letter as in the play. Then again he may never have drawn the connection-just copped the character's name.

I love the way Elvis loves Shakespeare. Macbeth has always been my favourite. I also think that this song kinda brings together all the concept around Spike.

If I recall correctly, I witnessed a performance of the song at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California. It was the Comeback in a Million Yearstour with the Rude 5. Elvis made a bit of berformance humor in trying to find the triangle for the ending ding.

I can't say I remember much about the event...the redhead was with me. A blinding light eminating from the stage seemed to be purposely aimed directly into my eyes and forehead, and by this I don't mean Elvis, I mean a stage floodlight was pointed right at the audience. Elvis wasn't at his best, and the redhead thought so, too. She thought he sucked. Some guy in the parking lot confirmed it by saying he felt like he got ripped off. There will always be lots of stupid people.

It might have been the Spike tour, too, I suppose.

...but I'm pretty sure I saw it.
