I wonder if there are any Russian fans of EC except me on this forum

I dson't recall seeing one ever (in 2.5 years). We haven't been further east than Invisible Pole! I have a vague idea that there was someone years ago on the Island board who was American but had travelled a lot in Russia! I went to Moscow once! Didn't see many references to EC! Welcome aboard, how nice it is to see the geographical coverage extend.

Back when I was a bit more politically feisty in my board-persona -- and quite possibly on a much earlier version of this board -- I remember having some debates mostly relating to Israel with a guy...and I don't think it was Toy Soldier, though he and I differed in a similar way. Don't have the slightest memory about his online name.

I think that's right - debates with Bobster sounds right. I'd just signed up and enjoyed the feisty nature of it, as Bobster says.

How many countries of the former 'Eastern bloc' has EC played live in? Can't recall if that's been discussed.

To my knowledge EC has never toured any of the Eastern bloc countries, either before 1989 or after.

However, I have received unconfirmed information that he had been invited to play at the so-called Singing Actors' Festival organized in Wroclaw in the middle of March (Nick Cave played there a few years ago).
For obvious reasons (U.S. tour) Elvis apparently turned down the offer.

EC - high time you came to this part of the world !!

Welcome to the Board by the way. I've enjoyed your posts so far. I've even thought about hiding my EC CDs in various parts of my wardrobe and drawers. I know how much Mrs VG would like that!

Not popular at all(though I know several people who like him). Sometimes when I go to a music shop and ask if they have him the seller asks me to repeat his name or just sais "who's that?". But somehow I managed to get When I Was Cruel, North, The Delivery Man, For The Stars and a concert with Bill Frisell. All the rest is downloaded, being downloaded and to be downloaded. I'd like to buy all his records through internet shops but that is what I can't afford.
In Russia there's a very developed pirate market - and a CD costs(I'll convert to dollars) about 3$. One more pleasant thing is that you can buy an mp3 disk at the same price. I don't know if such things exist in UK or US but I think they don't...for example I have a David Bowie mp3 with 16 albums on it that costed 3$. If only Costello were a little bit more popular I think our pirates would make his mp3s! Of course mp3 quality is not that I admire but it's worth its price especially when you have no other way to get the songs.
