Wow, I guess we missed the worst of it. My son Kieran had a blast playing in the snow this morning, but it was less than a foot, for sure.selfmademug wrote:Schools have already been closed for tomorrow and Tuesday. Helllloo snow days!
The dog days of January!
If we're gonna get a big storm, I'd much rather have it on a weekend. Our little town shuts down for the day - no cars driving by, and it's not until late in the evening, after the storm has passed, that the snowplows come. Just peace and quiet. I made chicken marsala, we did some odds and ends around the house, and I watched "The Cooler" with my wife after the kiddies drifted off to La-La Land. I love winter.

We had a three minute flurry this morning and now it's just back to being cold. Very cold. And windy.

The pancakes were solo, but delish. With butter, real maple syrup (is there another kind? ) and hot black coffee. Single digit temps, icicles shining in full sun, feet of snow. I do love New England, I gotta say.
As Jonathan Richman sings:
I've already been to Paris, already been to Rome
But what'd I do but miss my home?
Oh-OH New England.
Well I've seen old Israel's arid plain
It's magnificent but-- so's Maine!
Oh-OH New England.

Actually, I know the stuff quite well. I'm from New Jersey, home of processed food and disposable everything, and I grew up with "Vermont Maid" (um, ewwww) on rock-hard frozen waffles.crash8_durham wrote:
Oh and away from New England you will find all kinds of "other" types of what was formerly syrup.
I live in the City of Boston. And now eat Vermont-made as opposed to, well that other stuff. (At IHOP it's called "Pancake Syrup", so perhaps it's made of pancakes?)
PS-- isn't Alton where the big biker rally is?
My mother was raised in Jersey....and her brother still will eat anything, claiming "I'm from Jersey - if I can survive that, I can survive ______"selfmademug wrote:I'm from New Jersey, home of processed food and disposable everything, and I grew up with "Vermont Maid" (um, ewwww) on rock-hard frozen waffles.
I've never been, but I do wonder...
[Edit: I guess that's a lie, I *have* been to Jersey. Stayed in Secaucus during my last visit to NYC..the only negative part I remember was getting stuck on the NJ Turnpike trying to find my way out of town....]
