So shift yourself and shake your bod

Post by wehitandrun »

Party Party has been on just about all of my playlists for the last couple of months.

I love the complex vocal melody and great delivery on this track.

I am well aware of how despised it is by Elvis, and by a certain Bright Blue Times fansite- but this was what caused my interest in the song. I got it to hear what "the true worst song by EC" sounded like- and it's definitly not even close to being the worst.

This verse is classic:
Two boys are upstairs in your bed
Three girls are downstairs crying
The Alka Seltzer in the glass is roaring like a lion
You think you've aged ten years tonight and still never been kissed
So you overdose on aftershave and try to slash your wrist

Anybody who hasn't heard this track, I'll gladly send it to you. PM me.

I have always had a sneaking affection for this track as well. Of course, I'm a sucker for New Orleans-style horns and corny rhymes

I like this song a lot too. I never quite understood why it is so disliked but then again, there are lots of things I don't understand.

It's good to hear that people share this opinion. I really enjoy this track.

It's a great, comical track, with a great melody and arrangement. I reckon Elvis must hate it cos some of the lyrics sound a bit tossed off ('when you've got a face like last week's cornflakes), but he should lighten up! Wish he'd put it on the Imperial Bedroom reissue.

Aw, I love that line... though I barely understand it.

I never understood that about EC, he can hate his song because they were written as pop songs at the time- but he also said that he never really got personal in his lyrics in the first place. Punch The Clock, one of his albums he places aside, has some of his best lyrics on record.

Haha, yes.

You should check out Bright Blue Times, it's in the links section of http://www.elviscostello.info.

Bright Blue Times has some awesome essays with some rare pictures to go along with them.
