Spooky v WIWC2 v Alibi v Tart v Episode

Post by PlaythingOrPet »

It's "favourite" overload lately thanks to bamboo, so, while we're in the mood, I'd like to know which one of the above is the king of WIWC. I've nominated probably the five best from the album, which also seem to be other's faves too. Time to narrow them down. It's hard to choose but I know my, by a country mile, favourite.

Those are good choices, although I might replace Alibi with either 15 Petals or Doll Revolution. My vote went to WIWC No. 2.

1. Alibi - Gorgeous
2. Episode Of Blonde - Gorgeous chorus
3. Tart - Gorgeous opening
4. WIWC No.2 - over gorgeous
5. Spooky Girlfriend - Gorgeous live, but the WIWC version doesn't do it for me.

I wouldn't even think about it. I find that Alibi is a great song. So, I voted for it :)

On this list, WIWC #2. But I'd choose 15 Petals as the best on the album.

I like Tart best on this list, because I like the imagery.

But I like My Little Blue Window best on the album, because it makes me happy.
It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin' on

I voted for "Alibi" because I never had a pony, either.

Man, this is so hard! I really like WIWC in it's entirety. It's like a funky journey. All the songs are so totally unique but yet flow one into the other.
oooh....um...uhh....if I must choose one....aahh....okaaay.....
Episode of Blonde

"Did her green eyes seduce you and make you get so weak?
Was there fire engine red that she left upon your cheek?
It's such a shame you had to break the heart
You could have counted on but the last thing you need is another
…Episode of blonde"

I really like Dust2....Dust too

"If dust could only talk
What would we hear it say?"

and Alibi......how cool is that?

'You were weak…
You couldn't help it
Alibi, alibi
But you never had a pony
Alibi, alibi"

But so is Spooky Girlfriend!

"I want a girl to turn my screw
To wind my watch, to buckle my shoe
And if she won't her mother will do
But when she does as she's told
We'll all turn platinum and gold"

And what about Tart?

"And you say that you only feel bitterness
When you know it's a lie, lie, lie…"

And WIWC 2.......

"The ghostly first wife glides up stage whispering to raucous talkers
Spilling family secrets out to flunkeys and castrato walkers......."

I'm sorry everyone. I'm just a crazy Elvis fanatic who obsesses over every song. I'll try to control myself.

If I can.

And I actually do have a life, you know, kids, dog, cats, hubby.........
Sick, isn't it?
I'm not angry anymore....

Yes, I love MLBW as well. I was going to leave Alibi out and stick 15 Petals on the list but the number of people who I've heard say they love Alibi has been suprising. I, personally, don't care for it.

Actually "Dust 2 . . . " is my favorite . . . so I voted for "Spooky Girlfriend", naturally . . .

Tart--had my first ever episode of synesthesia listening to it for the first time. But EofB is so good I went platinum last year...

I love this album wholly and completely and find it a great listen all the way through.

I really like Tart and Alibi - great lyrics to both, but I do love Spooky Girlfriend. My husband always gives me a cheesy little grin when this track plays.

But I do agree with you SLL, SG is better in the live version on Cruel Smile.

dust 2... is the best song on the album for me but out of these choices my order is:

1. episode of blonde- i love when elvis gets lyrical diarhea. this non stop tirade gets me all worked up. "a tiny man imploring to the cieling fan/that stolen feeling". an image that sticks with me. i also love the fade out that makes the song feel like he could keep going forever.

2. wiwc2-elvis using his storytelling abilities to the max. i also dig the funky abba loop used in the song.

3.spooky girlfriend-i'm not even gonna get into what this song does to me. use your imagination.

4. alibi-it's more of a collection of great lines than a linear fluid song but it works for me.

5. tart-this song makes me hungry. i don't know why. i hate oranges.
-it takes a long time but god dies too/but not before he sticks it to you-

Not to be persnickity, c-punk, but the loop on WIWC 2 is from an Italian pop princess named Mina. The ABBA thing in the song is the quote from the lyrics of Dancing Queen.

But you're right it is great story-telling by Elvis, robust, vivid scenery and characters, including his own. It was my no. 1.

2. Episode of Blonde - "now they're both living in a soft-soap bubble." Not sure what it means, but the way he sings it cracks me up.
3. Tart
4. Spooky Girlfriend - "when you say no, she says, why not?"
5. (actually about 14) Alibi. I understated my dislike for this song earlier. The first time I heard it on the radio, knowing only one other song on the record, I thought Elvis had lost it. It does have some clever lines, but it doesn't hang together. I don't get the reason for its relentnessness. It needs another melodic component, at least.

Dust 2, 45, MLBW, 15P, all way ahead of it for me. Even Dissolve.

Is Episode of Blonde Elvis saying to himself "The Last thing you need is another episode of blonde" trying to resist this new love in the name of his marriage??
Loving this board since before When I Was Cruel.

1. When I was Cruel No.2 - They stopped time with this last July. It had a slower and very jungle-beat beat - that, and the sampling, hypnotizing everybody. Then, when he started with that distinctive guitar bit I was in heaven. But I still like it best in terms of the studio versions here, it still stops time and all the details are deliciously delivered. I love the way it captures decadence. My favourite on the album.

2. Episode Of Blonde. Similar thoughts as with WIWC - a fantastic detailed piece with great imagery. I love the way it changes musically. It was probably the collision of two other great songs that he threw out.

3. Alibi. That any song manages to keep me undecided for so long must mean that I really like it. I've decided that it ultimately works (I know some folks write it off as a fake great song and all that). You can always come up with an excuse. It kinda reminds me of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses by U2. ("You're dangerous, cos you're honest" etc). I also dig the changes on this one.

4. Tart. So sensuous, and kind of abstract... appropriate because I think it's just about a guy being intoxicated by lust and desire for a girl, it reflects that natural chemical high. And the arabic streets of Seville... ahhh. Very enjoyable. Unfortunately, he ends up "the bug that lay there broken".

5. Spooky Girlfriend - took ages for me to get over the annoying chorus and the doo doo doos, but really like it besides. EC sounds wicked when he laughs at the end of the Cruel Smile one.

............also........I'm not a great fan of Spooky, which contains one of the worst lyrics Elvis has written (IMHO)..you know...the buckle my shoe bit - awfullly weak for Elvis afficionados. Right up there with "you like coffee and you like tea...much more than you like me"

TART is probably the song I like best over the last 5 years. Really hot bass that just rolls and stumbles....along with a cool sound, great lyrics and a good bridge....(a little Cry Baby Cry sound there).....

I voted for Tart. Though my favourite by now is....I can never say which one is my favourite. Maybe 15 Petals..

I have a question for everyone here(one can notice that I'm not English so sometimes I don't understand the lyrics well enough)

who is Ein Panzer Kommander? And why is he "with no hair in place"?
Maybe I look funny asking about it but I....I don't know
Libraries filled up with failed ideas
There's nothing more for me there
I trust in tender ink and gentle airs
