Sod it! I saw this was happening at bang on 9.30! That'll each me to not look at this board enough. Please do post all the questions, Pubrock (hey folks, we have a bona fide TV celeb in our midst!). I'd love to know how many I would have got.
Am I just more knowledgeable these days, or is the Humphreys mastermind a bit dumbed down compared to the Magnusson era?
Pubrock: can I put you to the test? Can you tell me the significance of my boardname (furnishing details of relevant dates, etc.), sat, as if in the famous chair, without recourse to any items of reference.
Tell us all about being on Mastermind! I'm fascinated.

There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

Saw and enjoyed the show . Pubrock , identified as Eddie Thornley, knew all kinds of obscure stuff about Elvis . He was a little thrown by the questioner using the date '1970' instead of '2000' at one point ( well I think he did - I can't play the tape back just yet - it's taping something else at the moment!) . In the intoductory comment to the general knowledge round Eddie talked of being a fan of Elvis for the music he has discovered via him as much as by him - something I totally agree with.
Hurry up with that ' inside account ' , Pub' !

The Mastermind Experience
DON'T READ ON UNLESS YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!
I have had to wait three months since I recorded this and not mention the outcome! OK, coming fourth on a Mastermind heat is not as good as coming third, second or even first, but as only 1 in 100 applicants gets on I've achieved something.
When I get chance I'll dig out the extra questions that weren't asked and post them with the answers in a seperate post.
Thanks for all the nice remarks and I'll get back later.

Not likely to have come up as the researchers aren't allowed to be that obscure. Big Sister boots spring to mind...

Well done, Eddie. Bearing in mind it was on primetime, your appearance undoubtedly gave EC more exposure than the recent Jeremy Vine thing. That the Beeb got that Tom Thumb question wrong is another example of their ongoing dumbing down. It nearly threw you, still you soldiered on. I probably would have got 10 of the questions. Even I did'nt know the North one, not surprisingly since that album is such a seamless piece.
