The screech
Man, I love the patented Elvis screech. Every time he does it I try to screech along, but it's physically impossible. Can we come up with a definitive list of songs in which he does it? Off the top of my head, I can think of Eisenhower Blues, Deportee's Club, and there are little ones at the end of a couple of Almost Blue songs, but those aren't quite up to snuff.

Good call! Some really good ones in there. The last line of Beaten to the Punch is good, also, the rare singing screech.wehitandrun wrote:... doesn't he do it on the Alternate Version of "I Stand Accused"? (or the regular version of the song?)
Kojak Variety is a treasure trove. He does it in Strange, Leave My Kitten Alone, Bama Lama Bama Loo and Payday. You're right about this one, the album is growing on me.

Yeah, Kojak is just full of the screech. I know it annoys some people, but I think it's just fun and playful.
I have sentimental attachments to Kojak Variety, since I loved the album way before I ever cared who Elvis was. DrS's influence of course, but some of those songs helped me through important decisions when I was at a crossroads in my life. Elvis made those songs come alive for me when I really needed them.
I like the screech.

I've got a radio show acoustic version when he segues Pads, Paws and Claws into Leave My Kitten Alone.wehitandrun wrote:The best version, by far, is from a bootlegg acoustic show during "Pads, Paws, and Claws".
I've only got solo versions of Pads, Paws and Claws.
Has he ever done a band version live?
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?
