After Mick Taylor's departure from the Rolling Stones, what guitarist auditioned for the band, then hastily left Mick Jagger a note saying he had changed his mind and wanted to persue a solo career instead?

Bingo....Oily!!

Jeff Beck shunned the Stones to pursue his solo career (he ended up recording the masterpiece "Blow By Blow" with George Martin...).

That ain't a reason not to answer. You get your point, then you help someone (like me) get an easy point with an easy question.

Google tells me you're right, so I give you official approval to ask one (as I lie in waiting, and please make it as easy for me as the Mick Ronson one I missed!).

Okay, here's your easy point, and sticking with a jazz theme:

Dang, can only think of Dizzy Gillespie, but I suspect that's wrong. So much for the easy point.
