These are probably far less melodic (coherent?) than anything he has done with Camper Van Beethoven, but I would recommend:Boy With A Problem wrote:Tim(e) -
What would you recommend by Eugene Chadbourne as a starting cd to buy? I've got his disc with Camper Van Beethoven and honestly I don't listen to it that much. I saw him about 15 years ago playing with CVB and the bunch of them blew me away.
LSD C&W - the History of the Chadbourne's in America
There'll be no Tears Tonight.
I am afraid I am not sure how easy/hard these are to find or whether they are even on CD (mine are vinyl), but I recommend you look for them.
You might also want to check at a web site dedicated to the man:
Eugene Chadbourne's House of Chadula.

This thread should be covers you love from songs that you hated. (So says my husband.) That is the appeal of the cover. (He said that too.)ANYWAY......
I'll add to that:
I just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - EC
Mrs. Robinson - The Lemonheads (I know that one was already mentioned)
My Generation - GreenDay
Close To Me - The GetUp Kids
I Will Survive - Cake (very cool)
Kiss -Tom Jones
Hello, I love You - Adam and the Ants
She - Anthrax ( Kiss not EC)
Faith - Limp Bizkit
Baker Street - Foo Fighters
I have to add also, the ENTIRE Ramones tribute CD, I think it's called Happy Family. I don't have it here in front of me but there isn't a lame cover on it. Chrissie Hynde, GreenDay, Garbage, Pearl Jam, U2, Rob Zombie, Pete Yorn, Kiss, Tom Waits, Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frishante (sp?)......fantastic!

Cactus - David Bowie (prefer this to the original, and the two other covers on Heathen are great too).
I love the way The Specials took ska classics, often Prince Buster, like Al Capone or Judge Dread, and refashioned them into something totally new, like Gangsters or Stupid Marriage. They must have read a lot of T S Eliot's essays at school.

otis, i think anyone with ears would love that cover. i love a good cover song and very little is off limits in my mind. i even adore gwen stefani covering almost blue. it's about the music more than any kind of allegiance to specific singers.

The Stranglers also did that cover of Bacharach's Walk On By. Don't know too much about them, but they did have some really good sophisticated songs (Golden Brown, Skin Deep, Always The Sun etc) and also some real crap yobbo-sounding ones (Nice In Nice, Big In America, etc) -- can anyone point to an obvious explanation for this disparity?
I haven't heard this but would love to -- Suzanne Vega just did Beyond Belief in Budapest (she's long been an EC fan). I read about it on one of her road journal entries from her website. She's also recently done Dylan's It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding). http://www.suzannevega.com/discus/messa ... 1055860324
