Lydon joins cast of 'I'm a Celebrity`

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Anarchy in the jungle: Lydon joins cast of 'I'm a
Celebrity'
By Matthew Beard
20 January 2004

At the height of the punk era he declared himself an
anarchist and antichrist and branded the Queen a
"f****** German tourist".

Decades after shocking the nation as the frontman of
the Sex Pistols, John Lydon has gone mainstream by
agreeing to appear on the third series of I'm a
Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here!

Lydon, formerly known as Johnny Rotten, was yesterday
confirmed by ITV as one of 10 contestants who will fly
to the Australian rainforest where the reality show is
set.

Bookmakers have made Lydon 3/1 joint favourite with
Neil "Razor" Ruddock, the former Premiership
footballer renowned for his bad behaviour on the
pitch.

The other contestants are Jordan, the glamour model,
George Best's estranged wife Alex, the former pop star
Peter Andre, Jennie Bond, the former BBC royal
correspondent, Diane Modahl, a former Olympic athlete,
Lord Brocket, a convicted fraudster, ex-Atomic Kitten
Kerry McFadden and the DJ Mike Read. Some of the
participants were said to be unhappy with a fee of
£50,000 compared to a reported £100,000 for Jordan.

Last year the average audience was 9.5 million
compared to 7.7 million for the first series. Natalka
Znak, the executive producer, said: "We've assembled
the most unpredictable cast yet - and anything could
happen." The first show was won by the DJ Tony
Blackburn and last year's winner was Phil Tufnell, the
former England cricketer. The new series starts on
Monday on ITV1.

Can someone tell me why the word Glamour where Jordan is concerned?

And as for John Lydon - yet more filthy lucre.

The word "celebrity" gets cheapened more and more doesn't it?

It seems as if the word "celebrity" is coming to mean "has-been".

I've never been a fan of John Lyndon. He was an asshole when he was with the Pistols, and in his climbing age, he's just become a grumpy old man. He should get a proper haircut, put on a suit and give it up.

The rest of the cast is not exactly brilliant is it? How long before Kerry McKitten does a Daniella Westbrook (no snorting at the back there!) then?

Mike Read?

Lord Brocket?

Admit it, who here will still be watching it avidly? I won't but I know Mrs VG will. And she'll try to make me watch it.

Luckily being in charge of the remote control was part of my pre-marriage contract!

what's next for Mr. Lydon? Supermarket openings? County fairs? Will we see him hawking Johnny Rotten cologne and skin care products on QVC?

Still, as long as it's not Jennie Bond! That's one Bond girl who does nothing for me.

Mike Reid is a top bloke...massive music fan (as you'd expect). I've seen where he does his show from, an archive in his house full of music...I believe he's a big EC fan too!

I'm not going to be watching the celebrity show, and I know John Lydon can be insufferable. I wouldn't want him for a neighbor, if I had to have a famous one Ringo would be my choice.

But I'm going to go against the grain of the responses to this thread and put in a good word for Mr. Lydon. He has made excellent and lasting contributions with the Never Mind the Bullocks album and his memoirs Rotten. The cartoon image was deliberate, but on another level he was playing Richard III in the Pistols. No matter what he may do to make money he is an intelligent man and a total original. I admire those qualities.

I've been watching it....and enjoying it :o ...and John Lydon has come off as a top bloke!

Peter Andre on the other hand should be boild in toffee and dropped in a nest of vipers!

The most bizarre sequence so far has been the sight of Horrible Nasty Sex Pistol John comforting Thicko Blonde Girl Band Kerry as she emotes about how awful a time she is having.

However he has redeemed himself by violently evacuating the contents of his nose - one nostril at a time - a few times , all lovingly recorded by the camera.

I am firmly in the pro-Lydon camp....hes not on the box enough for me. There is something gloriously ironic about him being on such a mainstream programme.

Sorry I'm a bit late on this... but why is everybody calling him John Lydon and not Johnny Rotten?

Yeah.. but he's Johnny Rotten.

I mean we don't go around called Sting Gordon Sumner,
or Elton John Reginald Dwight,
or Elvis Declan MacManus (at least not usually)

Hey, my crap avatar is rather appropriate now, no? Did you see Lydon calling Jordan "It" last night. Haha. The sight of his pallid pigeon chest is making me feel peculiar, and I can't believe I can quite happily watch an hour (or two) of it on ITV2.

But then again I'm on my sick bed. What's your excuse?
