An Introduction To...

Post by laughingcrow »

I now have the capability to burn CDs...and 'imagine' that I wanted to get one of my mates into EC, what kind of things do you think I should put on the CD?
I've seen his record collection, and he's into new rock and indie bands (Radiohead is his fave), so I wanna keep it relatively guitar-based, so no PFM/Juliet/North...I don't want it to be a 'commercial best of', but I'd like suggestions so it doesn't become 'my personal favourites'....

so far, I'm thinking about...

UNCOMPLICATED
BEYOND BELIEF
LIPSTICK VOGUE
BIG BOYS
ALISON
I WANT YOU

I'm thinking of getting 16 tracks, then working on their order.

How about

13 Steps Lead Down
Man Out of Time
Daddy Can I Turn This? and
Jack of All Parades (I think I read in Q magazine that this is Thom Yorke's favourite song)
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

Think about putting You Bowed Down on that CD. That song has some sweet guitar work in it

Many a good shout best beloveds..but this Rhino still has it's skin, keep em coming! I'm mulling this over very carefully, and will also utilise the top 50 when it is completed.

LC, I hope this one isn't too commercial, but "Oliver's Army might ne a good one. It's always been one of my favorites, and when I've introduced others to it, they've liked it too.

Brilliant Mistake is a brilliant (that word's in my mind now) song.

Do you have room on your list for Goon Squad? It has that great intro.

Ooooh! What about Motel Matches? It sounds kind of different.

I've got a preliminary 16, which Im not wholly happy with...now adding some of the contributions since I last posted...I have a program that allows me to set up the playlist, and I'm trying to get the continuity right...

e.g Less than Zero doesn't lead well into I want you

What do you think should end the set? I think it has to be a 'leave em wanting more thing' but not something too maddening like Pumo it up. At the mo it's Night Rally...but Im not sure that's right.

Anyway, here's the first draft....please feel free to deconstruct as it's not the final draft.

UNCOMPLICATED
LIPSTICK VOGUE
BEYOND BELIEF
JACK OF ALL PARADES
WATCHING THE DETECTIVES
*LESS THAN ZERO
I WANT YOU
SULKY GIRL
...THIS TOWN...
PUMP IT UP
*WATCH YOUR STEP
WHEN I WAS CRUEL 2
RIOT ACT
MAN OUT OF TIME
TOKYO STORM WARNING
*NIGHT RALLY

* = not sure about this track

I like the set up.....but wouldn't it be easier to tie them to a chair and lock them in a room and make them listen to all the albums?

I don't know enough about Radiohead to offer anything....(Misha in a cave emoticon here)

If he's into guitar bands then plenty of noisey Attractions and Imposters: Chelsea, doll Revolution, Straight or Blind, Happy Now, etc. I remember Thom Yorke in an interview saying his favourite Elvis track was I'll Wear it Proudly. I'd recomend giving your mate a lyric sheet - you can cut and paste them from EC Home Page. Good luck.
