Another Tower of Song?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Whtsde gave a very eloquent description of No Woman's Flesh But Hers complete with transcribed lyrics over at MBA's Biggest Badass thread. Although I do have to say that Across 110th Street is one of my favorite songs as well.

Just read the whole list....all caught up now. The invalid session thing almost did me in for good but I seem to be able to post now...

I loved the early entries of Queen (which prompted my world's longest post, only to get the invalid session error) it was a great post about Queen and Freddie....I'll save my Queen entrance for later in the game. LaughingCrow I swear as I was reading through the posts I had decided to go with that very same Bobby Womack song....Nice Job!

This is very hard.......

Out: Sam & Dave - When There's Something Wrong With My Baby (sorry)

Some great choices, folks -- even if my Four Tops didn't last, nor the great, great "Across 110th Street" (I'm assuming we were talking here of the Jackie Brown version -- the version that's in the original movie of the same name, also recorded by Bobby Womack, is not nearly as compelling). "Backstabbers" is pure genius.

Out -- The Proclaimers
In -- "The" Pretenders

Al Green - Love and Happiness
The Rolling Stones - Wild Horses
Joni Mitchell - Amelia
Tom Waits - Hang Down Your Head
Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit
Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Coma Girl
The Flying Burrito Brothers - Sin City
O'Jays - Back Stabbers
Pretenders -- The Wait
Townes Van Zandt - Tower Song

Oh yeah, WDVX in Knoxville. It's a cool Americana station that really caters to the No Depression and Dirty Linen set. Lots of gospel bluegrass, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Tammy Wynette, Johnny & June Carter, The Louvin Brothers, Robbie Fulks, Alejandro Escovedo, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, etc. They have a website, http://www.wdvx.com, which is pretty good although it seems like it's a pain in the ass for them to keep running because they're always having fundraisers for it.

No, I didn't even know about that station?

Have you seen or heard of the documentary film Heartworn Highways? It profiles what a hip scene Nashville was in the 70's with guys like Townes, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou, Linda, Steve Earle and Guy Clark hanging out and making a lot of cool music. Definitely something I'd like to get for Xmas!

Never heard of that documentary, but it sounds interesting.

And I checked out the website for that Knoxville station....first page screams FUNDRAISER at you. Pretty funny!!

Check out http://www.wsmonline.com, especially Saturday mornings from 6 am to 10 am. It's WSM 650-AM here in Nashville. Eddie Stubbs, who's an announcer at the Opry, has a classic country request show. It's one of the best shows I've ever heard. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of classic country music.
