Does anyone have any more details of the Japanese release, being advertised here?

http://www.cdbanq.com/Elvis-Costello--N ... 29096.html

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=UCCO-3022

both of which sites promise National Ransom plus "bonus "

What could be the bonus, other than one or more of the four songs he has been playing live with the Sugarcanes but not included on the regular album?

They could include a cover in the vein of "Femme Fatale"...

such as "Don't Lie to Me", "Friend of the Devil", or "He's Got You"...

The "Lies & Inventions" section of the official website is, as the title suggests, not entirely reliable, but it did mention seven additional songs supposedly recorded during the album sessions.

They definitely cut more than ended up on the album - I don't know which they are but I'd assume Condemned Man and Poor Borrowed Dress are among them.

So far, amongst the 'Holding all to ransom' fantasy release dates, there have been very few items offered at reasonable prices. And I have imported from Japan/USA/Jersey-Guernsey/Europe/Oz to UK frequently in past.

Is it me or is he looking more like Woody Allen these days?

Anyway, I suspect all these online stores have only received the basic release details with 16 tracks etc. and with the changes to the release dates they are slow at updating the sites.

As for the Japanese bonus track or hopefully tracks, the label probably hasn't notified the sites yet. This is usually the case until nearer the time. Hopefully, they'll be studio recordings rather than live.

The real question is...where does Elvis get his clothes, and how much does he pay for them?

I love EC's current look. He's slimmer now, going all TransCanadian Hipster on us with green pants and sprigs of Man Jewelry even. Yes, sprigs of Man Jewelry yet....

I am thinking the hat is custom. The crown looks to be about 4 1/2 inches creased with not much taper which is vintage like. I would like to see a side view of it though. The brim looks to be about 2 1/2 inches with a wide under welt. He is also wearing it brim up (no snap) which was common in the first part of the 1900s.

There's another update on Elvis' site:

http://www.elviscostello.com/#/news/LUPE-O-TONE/68

This suggests an extremely limited run of autographed 78s - covering four of the songs from "National Ransom". There's also a lot of references to wolves. Knowing Elvis this all may be fictional, but if it's true it will make a fine memento for the dedicated collector.

I wonder if there's going to be a physical single release. I know that 'My All Time Doll' was released as a precursor to Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, and 'Complicated Shadows' was a physical release, but it seems like he's less interested in singles anymore. I'd think that 'Jimmie' would be the likeliest contender for single release, because it's been pretty steady in his set list since February, but maybe this is just the kind of album that needs to be listened to as an album, and can't really be condensed to a single?

I hope the 78 thing is for real.

I hope they are ACTUAL 78s-- has Costello ever released a 78 before?

More to the point, does anyone have anything that would actually play 78's ?

No me. My Technics turntable is 32 years old and has served me well over the years but it doesn't play 78's. Hell there's only going to be 25 each of these, right? 8) Surely there are that many 78-players out there. I wonder how many of them have A/V outputs? 8) 8)

Hey guys, brand new here, but I've been lurking for a while haha. Anyway, whatd you make of this on his 78 update:

"TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT WATCH THIS SPACE FOR HOW TO PLACE YOUR ORDER

JUST TELL YOUR LOCAL LUPE-O-TONE STOCKISTS…

“I’M STARTING TO GROWL
”" ? ? ? ? ? ?

To be honest, I think National Ransom is probably the most likely single candidate. An uptempo rocker with topical lyrics.
