The Very Official 2009 Fantasy Baseball Thread
OK, folks. It's that time of year again. Pitchers and catchers are reporting to Florida, Alex Rodriguez is blaming someone else for his steroid problems and Bud Selig is devising new ways to screw up the upcoming season. Yes, it's baseball - America's wounded pastime!
This year our dear oily slick has agreed to act as Commissioner in my stead. I would really love to (well, not really), but life and work are a bit crazy at the moment and it's probably best that I step down while there is still a chance that I'll see my bust in Cooperstown. So, with no further ado...
I've sent invitations to sign up again to all of those who played last season. For any of you who did not get the e-mail, sign-up is easy. Go to Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball, create your team, then join league 137106. The Password is elvis.
Of course, if we have any first-timers interested in joining we'd love to have you. I don't think any of us take this thing too seriously, so don't be afraid. We see you lurking there in the shadows.

This is reminscint of Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis taking over as comissioner in 1920. Our new comissioner is a notorious "control freak dick" - his words not mine - which is kind of what the league needs. Take no prisoners. Last year there were was a definite lack of chatter on the message board - we need more trash talking - we need to question each others masculinity and/or femininity. And we need to cut down on the quitters - it was really frustrating when a couple people in an already small league through in the towel early last year - no quitters please - take your lumps and when Brad Penney comes off the DL, put him back in your rotation.
I just scared everyone off. sorry.

now now. i am just the organization commissioner; we may then change and have an operations commissioner. but please, you don't have to hover over it, but do not sign up if you cannot commit to being a regular player. i do not believe we will go ahead with the league if we do not have enough managers who solemnly swear. bluechair, we need to talk.
I'm not concerned about the very poor.

This will be the year I stick it out for the whole season. Mark my words!
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

For those who have not had a chance to check the Yahoo! board, I have retaken control in a bloodless coup.
We are doing a live draft this year, currently scheduled for Saturday, March 28. If you can't make it, do not worry. Yahoo! will select for you based on your pre-draft rankings. I've also recruited two friends to play (Liverpool fans both but don't hold that against them). slick and BWAP have also brought in a player or two. We are looking at - probably - an 11 team league at the moment. Of course, new players are still welcome.

I think we're all "adjusting" ourselves in anticipation.
Did someone drop out? I could have sworn we had 11 players and now we're back to ten, but I have one more coming on board.

Will be taking my boy down to Yankees/Rays game on Saturday for our first visit to the new stadium. I did a search for "Best Available" on Ticketbastard and it came back with a result of $900 seats in the Legends section!
I don't think so. Got tickets on Stub Hub instead.
Also will be at Fenway to see the Sox/Mariners on July 5 - a b-day gift for my Dad, who is a Sox fan.

I met Terry Francona this morning. He was outside my office at 7:45. Kind of surreal.

I told him we need to work on getting Dice K to get back to nibbling - challenging the hitters isn't working for him. I offered to come and help John Farrell with working on his mechanics - he said he'd get back to me.
