Aw man, I would LOVE to see Tom Waits. Why would that be unlikely though? He's been on Letterman, Daily Show, all kinds of talk shows. Plus he and Elvis obviously share a mutual admiration, and they already did that long conversation piece in the late eighties. I think it would be fascinating to watch.

always dancing, SS Johnny/Bruce and GP would be a deal breaker - so long as they had a four-piece horn section behind them!

Still, although it will never happen, I'd love to see the original "angry young men" of 1978 sit in a semi-circle and trade off on songs that they had written over the past 30 years. Imagine Elvis singing "I'm In the Mood Again" followed by Graham singing "Disney's America" and JJ chiming in with "Steppin' Out".

Sheer heaven.

It'll never happen, though.

Of course I am curious, but which person are you? Is it obvious? I plan to rewatch it soon, so would be fun to know.

Verb: yes, five only here: Police, Elton, Rufus, Lou, Bill.

Yes please to many of the above, especially Waits, Joni and of course the wonderful Ron.

Others:

Neil Young
David Bowie
Richard Thompson
Lloyd Cole
Aretha Franklin

When I first heard of EC doing this show my first thoughs were Leonard and Joni - they do, after all, share the same management. But he needs to have some younger folk on, too. I'd like to see Amy Winehouse, if she manages to get herself back together.

I think it would be great to have some musical artists that you would not associate with Elvis; like Eric Clapton, David Bryne, or Peter Gabriel.

If anyone could get Peter Gabriel out of his shell in an interview, it would be Elvis.

James Taylor may not have been the most exciting guest, but I would never have imagined Elvis and he singing together.

Tom Waits
Bob Dylan
Paul McCartney
Joni Mitchell
Randy Newman
Aretha Franklin
T-Bone Burnett

I think that's a fairly feasible list.

Axl.

Hasn't done an interview for years but, who knows, he could do it if Elton asked. Elton's first 5 albums were his inspiration to become a musician.

I watched the show yeseterday and looked out for you. You're a knockout!

I thought this was one of the better interviews, I especially liked Rufus talking about ihis approach to the old standards; trying to make them relevant rather than being a historian.

I think the hat Elvis was wearing on the show was the soft version of the Devo Energy Dome.

I sure hope so. He's my favorite artist working these days. Maybe he and EC are in a contest over how many times they can quit 'forever'.

Didn't mean to totally dis Ryan. I like his stuff, too. It just gets silly hearing musicians who want to "quit" music (usually because they're a little "disenchanted" with their jobs after doing a little, good God, work) immediately after they've been on a successful tour and have a little jack in their pocket. Musicians can be such a tempermental bunch.

No explanation needed! I feel the same way you do! Ryan Adams could no sooner quit writing/recording/performing than I could stop breathing. I'm sure he, Elvis, and others often mean it when they say they are going to quit. I too get tired of hearing it though.

Just to say I watched the Rufus Wainwright and Elton John editions again recently.

When it comes down to it, these are really great shows. My initial concerns about Elvis's fairground barker introductions and his wearing of hats (still not a great idea, I think) - the placing of the commercial breaks is bad (and Idiophone gets irritating after every break - they should just have silence for the breaks).

But these are peripheral concerns. At heart these a really interesting interviews, and it's great to have a presenter who isn't constantly interrupting and trying to be funny, as most presenters seem to do these days.

Elvis's version of Holy Moses was absolutely wonderful, as was his version of Loudon Wainwright's song. I actually really liked 'If I Only Had A Brain', too!

My mate said, and I quote: "Channel Four should be ashamed. These should've been on at 9pm." I agree!
