Random Thoughts

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

As I rapidly approach the half-century mark, I find I have a harder time finding myself. If I do happen upon myself, I'm usually asleep in an armchair.

otis that was the longest 3 minutes of my life. the tuba player is singing while he is oompahing. how does he do that! these guys are sitting on a john deere, so they are a little too uptown for my kin.
I'm not concerned about the very poor.

Big hit in my youth. the hands only tuba is pretty impressive, huh? Another big hit was 'I am a cider drinker/I drink cider all day'. I enjoyed seeing the smiley singer's face again. A colleague who is from Bristol so not a country bumpkin but near enough to Somerset etc. to be described as 'from the west country' told me she went to see them live recently. the cider hasn't finished them off yet! Sounds like your sort of night out.

I take both pride and shame in the fact that I turn 30 in exactly three months and I still don't have a license. I could blame it on where I grew up, but everyone else around here managed to get one!

I've been one of the AWOL, but I got up at 7:30 on a Saturday to work, if that gives you any idea as to why...

I'm doing a translation that contains a word that can either be translated as "friend" or "little turd." It's impossible to tell from the context which is intended! We don't have any Belgians in the house, do we?

Maybe the intention is to mean both simultaneously? This is Belgian French as opposed to Flemish, right?

I can imagine the scatological Catalans having a word that means both at once (one common practice at this time of year there is to place a little shitting shepherd - el caganer - in the crib scene!).

You know, Queen Latifah used to live in Jersey City. Just thought I'd mention it.

Took my son sledding today. Man, was that exhilarating (and a great way to clear your head of negative vibes). There is a massive hill behind the sports field at the local private school, Trinity Pawling, that is ideal for sledding. It's like a little rollercoaster, with three excellent drops and a couple of flatter areas, followed by a long flat area at the bottom where you can just glide after you've built up speed. The trick was to try to make it to the line of trees that runs along the edge of the train tracks. We got close a few times but just missed. Maybe more of a running start next time will do the trick.

We also went to the high school hockey game on Saturday with Cub Scouts (more good cheap entertainment). Excellent quality of play considering the level.

I think I enjoy reading Robbie more than I like listening.

If I had a spare $5k, I'd throw a party just so he could play in my backyard.

The new passports sure are colorful. There's also a chip in there - I presume so that Cheney and his pals can track our movements. :D

Wisdom teeth going bye bye in the morning. Although I'm not looking forward to it exactly, it will be good to have it done with. Or maybe I'll be done with. If so, its been nice, and please make sure that 'Please Stay' and 'Keep Me in Your Heart' by Warren Zevon are played at my funeral. Except I don't want a funeral.
