I found all these songs somewhat annoying to begin with until I grew to like them. Which do you like best, and which do you like least?

I'm actually in TOTAL agreement with DR. J!!!.....I love all of those songs....the only exception being Sunday's Best....but I love the closing on Sunday's Best...."oh what a letdown when the battle is finally one...etc." that is a brilliant little melody there......

I voted for Crimes of Paris as the one I like best. I never found this one annoying; I liked it the first time I heard it, even though Elvis' voice is ever-so-slightly approaching that range which some consider annoying.

The others are in order as follows:
2. Tears Before Bedtime
3. This Is Hell--it plods a bit, but the imagery is so great. "naked starlets floating in champagne"
4. Sunday's Best
5. Miss Macbeth--still hasn't quite grown on me.

By the way, DrJ, I really like your avatar.

Goody goody....ya...I like CRIMES....his voice is strained, but the rinky ding shabby guitar playing suits me well........much better than the electric version by the way.

I know This Is Hell irritates some people, but there are days when my life isn't going just as I would like - and I hear that song - and somehow it just fits, you know? :?

The melody is almost happy, despite the words . It's a well-though out contrast.

Edge goes to Crimes, the creshendo in the middle eight is unsurpassed.

I hate Miss Macbeth, well, hate is too strong a word, but it just reminds me of all the other over inflated stuff on Spike.

You know, I changed my mind, tied between Tears and Crimes.

And Sunday's Best is great to, except Cop Fan, you got your days mixed up. That great little hook you are refering to is at the end of Wednesday Week :-P

This Is Hell is my girlfriend's favorite E.C. song. For me, it sounds a lot like a Desolation Row redux. Love the Andrews/Coltrane verse though!

I like them all  . How can anyone hate a song will golliwog in it? I voted for 'Crimes of Paris'. I guess my least favorite is 'Sunday's Best'.

I'd rank them graphically, like this:

Crimes Of Paris

Sunday's Best
Tears Before Bedtime
This Is Hell

Miss Macbeth

I really like all except Miss Macbeth, which annoys the pee out of me.

I'm surprised that people don't dig Sunday's Best. I really like that song.

But Crimes of Paris is just a wonderful tune.

"Crimes Of Paris" is one of my favourites! Same with "Tears Before Bedtime"! And "This Is Hell" has some of the best lyrics Elvis has ever written!

Where's "I'm Not Angry"? That song still kind of annoys me

Me too. Don't know why. That and Goon Squad I never fully get into.

This is Hell
Tears Before Bedtime

But I liked both of those right off the bat. These three have grown on me to various degrees:

Miss Macbeth - I second lapin's remark about a song with a golliwog. And the fishbone slide.

Sunday's Best - for its wacky melody

Crimes of Paris - er, well, this has never done it for me. I'm kind of blocked about the second half of B&C in general.

I love Im Not Angry . . . Goon Squad I could do without . . .

Crimes of Paris for me, though all those oh oh ohs do get annoying so I really prefer a live version. Hardly ever listen to Miss Macbeth or Sunday's Best.

crimes of paris is fabulous. but to me you nailed it here bamboo with miss macbeth. 2nd worst elvis song next to you know what. well, except for that embarrassing moment where he rattles the piss out of your speakers screaming WHAT'S HER NAME TODAY? at the end of that song on burt's album.
I'm not concerned about the very poor.
