Find Poppet a place to live!!!

Post by Poppet »

hi guys.

i know, i'm RARELY here these days.

omg SO busy!!!

the condo is under agreement (HALLELUJAH!!!!!!), and now i gotta move.

criteria: Boston Metro Area, $1100 max rent (unless it's got all utilities, i can pay a smidge more for that convenience), commuter rail or subway access to North or South Station. one bedroom (or really big studio).

and NOT Allston, Brighton, Brookline. NOT on the green line (unless it's East Cambridge). NO STUDENT GHETTOS (so not the Fenway, Back Bay, etc.) oh, and NOT arlington. that's the ex-husband's territory, i cede it to him.

any pointers? i've got an agent, but i think we're not talking the same language when it comes to rentals. i've poured over craigslist, have access to MLS listings -- there's not much i can afford - there's some.

i'm frustrated. i have criteria of price, surrounding area amenities, proximity to public transport, but i don't care so much which town i'm in. and that seems to NOT be the way this works.

tks folks!

best wishes, your poppet

Somerville. Davis Square.

Maybe too expensive?

My cousin and her husband run a cafe in Union Square. That's a nice little neighborhood and maybe more affordable.

omg.

i thought that said "pop in around town" - uh, no.

that is MARVELOUS!!! granted it's a restaurant they're noting, and i'd love to know places one could go w/o feeling bad if you didn't buy something, but still, yay!!!

:)

i would love to live in union square. it's a long walk to work, but way more do-able than from 7 miles away, like currently. there are TONS of things to do, and ethnic shops which i love.

and Market Basket, the amusement park of food. i ADORE market basket. cheap, fun (if you approach it as an excursion and NOT a quick grocery run). yeah, i am easily amused.

Nice website Sam!

Poppet - have you considered East Boston? I bet there are some nice apartments in your range there.

i haven't seen anything in east boston, but it's on the list of places that are okay.

not IDEAL, but i don't expect ideal, 'cause i can't AFFORD it. :)

i need an easy commute to cambridge, 'cause i work in kendall sq.

i'm going to see a place in central sq at 1pm today. it's in my price range. it just might be a dump. :) but, i might be lucky, and it will be just what i need.

central is walking distance to work. i could use the exercise.

the condo FINALLY sold, praise BE! (good grief, that was NOT a fun ride.)

and where does poppet live???

North Quincy.

YAY!!!

- easy commute. walk to train station, take train to station near work, walk to work. easy peasy.
- 1.5 blocks to the beach.
- LARGE apartment, second floor, bright, hardwood floors, well kept, decent landlord.
- adorable neighborhood - working class, people take care of their yards and plant flowers and vegetables, kids play in the street, next door neighbor has a dog who is well-trained, wow!

i'm thrilled! i LOVE my apartment.

if you're coming thru boston and wanna meet up for a drink, drop me a pm. i'm still around, just wicked busy. :) however i usually NOT too busy for a drink. priorities, you know.

Hey, Poppet! I missed your initial post during all the hub-bub of getting the kids back in school. Good to see you. :D

And should I make it to Boston, I will certainly look you up!

oooh, party!

Post by Poppet »

ah, totally missed getting this in time.

but i was already booked up - a friend had sunday free to bring me some of the stuff i stored at her house so the condo would be more spacious. and it worked! yay!!

now i just need to get the rest of my stuff outta her house, and i've got actual furniture there. got it over to her house in a couple trips w/ an SUV, but getting it out, one trip would be good. multiple trips would be crummy. need to find a truck.

happy labor day - i hope it was un-labor-full. :D

My girlfriend has some relatives in Quincey, so I've been there a few times and I'm glad you landed there. Next time we're up........
