On another topic, why is it that "migraine" is synonymous with "headache" for so many people? If you're at work and functioning fairly normally, I simply don't believe that you have a migraine!

Same as 'cold' and 'flu'. Lots of people refer to any minor cold virus as flu whereas in reality flu is like migraine, completely debilitating.

I haven't watched a second of the Olympics. I didn't realise when I booked my holiday that I was travelling on the day it opened. GB seems to be doing good stuff. Why exactly is it that we can be GB for Olympics and England et al for footie? It makes no sense.

Yes it does - if we had a British or UK football team it would be comprised of 11 Englishmen anyway. It's just a way of saving embarrassment for the other nations. Actually, I don't know why I'm laughing - it's true!

Phelps is amazing.

The Jamaican sprinters are incredible as well. Shelly-Ann Fraser is a phenominal athlete.

Watch for the 'roids' allegations to start, if not already. And given the meteoric rise in talent in the sprinting events, it is worth taking a look at.

Meanwhile, the infant chinese gymnasts will be disqualified. There are anatomical features of puberty and the ability to bear children (not the obvious ones) that are simply not present in a few of these Chinese gymnasts. The Iliac crests of the pelvis flail out a little well before 16 years of age, due to a hormonal softening of the pubic symphysis that permits the pelvic inlet to expand commensurate with child bearing capability. At least two of these girls don't exhibit that anatomical characteristic. Granted, there are cultural difference in body habitus but this is too remarkable NOT to notice for wierd anatomists and physiologists who are fountains of useless knowledge.

I was cycling to work the other day and saw a familiar face in the street. Henry Rollins. I'd seen a review of a London show and knew it was more than likely. Sure enough, he had a show that evening. He was a lot shorter than I expected, I though he'd be 6 ft 4 or something. He had a nice face.

Ha! It was definitely the wine. While I have no doubt we will meet someday, I can assure you I will NOT be wearing anything tye-dyed! And if I am, please strike me soundly about the head and shoulders.

Good question, RTHTW. I myself have not completely made the move away from plastic bags, mostly because I use them for bin liners. Bin liners are not usually blowing across the landscape, so that's one point in their favor.

People will use them sparingly if they're paying for them. The forward-thinking Irish outlawed plastic bags, what, 10 years ago. Why has it taken us so long? Why do so many shop assistants still offer me a bag or not even ask and just assume I want one?

When we've gone to Munich, we get charged for them. And they're not cheap either - usually about 25 eurocents. We learn to take them back out with us from the hotel when we shop in town.

Funny, just after I typed this, the Discovery Channel started running an episode of How It's Made and guess what they're talking about making - plastic bags!

The barber shop that recently opened in our sleepy little town was just closed down after it was found that the guys running it were dealing heroin. Nice.

Never patronized it myself and now it seems I never will.
