What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

I'm ashamed to say I don't have it on cd but I'm proud to say I have it on vinyl. Ronstadt's a great singer and, to my mind, unjustly maligned. Peter Asher, producer of her hit albums, kept Ronstadt focused on churning out the hits once her star was on the rise. Too bad. She had some good material but could have been more adventurous with her choice of musicians and producers.

My Favorite Albums so far this year (2008):

Langhorne Slim - Langhorne Slim
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Neil Diamond - Home Before Dark
Sam Phillips - Don't Do Anything
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!
The Kills - Midnight Boom
Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs
Beck - Modern Guilt
R.E.M. - Accelerate

Sorry Elvis, Momofuku didn't make the cut. Some of the songs are some of my favorites though.
P.S. I consider Radiohead's In Rainbows to be last year; since I bought online in 2007.

This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Good choice , Blue. Street In The City is a near perfect evocation of a urban environment ,Edwin Astley's orchestral arrangement seeming to feature something new every time it's heard.

This evening I listened too -

Jim White 'n The Watsons' are hooky 'n catchy , making me stop what I was reading. The 'Beasts 'n Dan are a bit samey with little to hold the attention.

Can someone identify the sample used at the beginning of Josh Rouse's "Lemon Tree" (you can hear it here: http://www.myspace.com/joshrouse)? The same sample is used at the beginning of Wilco's "Magazine Called Sunset"

From Melbourne, Australia. Sort of a big band/ska vibe, like Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Smashmouth, etc. A work colleague gave this to my wife and now it's my daughter's favorite album. Not bad.

I did but the funny thing is that the LP is 45 RPM and I had it on 33RPM when I first played it, so Guy Garvey and the band sounded like they were on quaaludes until I figured it out.

Sounds like the intended effect was lost! It's so quiet I had to turn it up on the iPod, and then jumped out of my skin for he fanfare moment. Can't wait to see them start the show with this where the band all blast the brass.

Had this song on the brain all day:

He needs a good shower, but the man is seriously talented. I played almost nothing else on the iPod for 10 days in Italy (or rather nights, that's when I use my iPod, between the click of the light and the start of the dream, and sometimes well after the latter) but their LP and also the very good NPR show from the same source as the supreme Tom Waits one, which I was also playing. I now know and appreciate the LP more as a whole and am entirely blown away by pretty well everything on it. It has to go down as one of the best debut LPs I've ever heard ever, and I think a lot of people will judge it that way in the future.

Radio 1 Established 1967 - Various

There are some great covers on this album and, gasp, one of my favourites is Keane's version of Under Pressure.

The good thing about this was that I was listening to the album again without really taking notice of who was playing. I heard Under Pressure and when the car stopped looked at the sleeve to see who it was by. I was surprised to see my enjoyment was of Keane given my, er, not too generous, past words about them
