Wake up you footy fans!!!

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Huh? They just re-signed Conway.

Clint's playing in Greece now, isn't he?

I saw the Conway thing. I had been hoping it would go another way. Mathis shook hands with somebody in Greece. I think it means they are engaged.

Expect Mostest to do great things this weekend because I will be in the godless hinterlands without Fox Soccer.

What, no celebration here of MU's 6-0 goalfest against the beleaguered Geordies? Hysterical, especially given Birmingham's point at the Emirates. Ronaldo's 42 points as captain were handy. IP notched up 109 - wowzer! If Portsmouth hadn't lost to Sunderland and Friedel had kept a clean sheet, I could have had a bit more than him. For the first time I can remember, I appear to be top in both work (fiercely competitive) and EC leagues. Peaking too early, no doubt...

No celebration from me, that's for damn sure! But it was an awesome second half, abetted in no small measure by NUFC's current hopelessness. I'm not sure that Arsenal is going to be able to hang in there with you.

Nice win by Chelsea - very comfortable and still missing major pieces of our squad. Anelka looked lively and hungry and SWP seems to have been reborn.

Way out in the godless hinterlands of E TN, I happened upon 15 minutes of satellite radio with EPL scores. Business as usual.

Dammit.

So, I'm focusing on all things MLS now. Those fabulous boys in red (or blue or white) will be over in Charleston for a preseason tournament that kicks off March 15. Austin and I are making plans.

We take what we can get.

I've been waiting for that so I could say 'See, I tooooold you!' Anelka wasn't too far off scoring, the bastard.

Could have had two, if not for a fine save by Cerny and a stubborn crossbar. I think we'll be OK, even with the African players missing.

Welcome back Kevin Keegan! More of these gems to look forward to...

(1) "England have the best fans in the world and Scotland's fans are second-to-none."

(2) "It's like a toaster, the ref's shirt pocket - every time there's a tackle, up pops a yellow card."

(3) "I don't think there's anyone bigger or smaller than Maradona."

(4) "England can end the millennium as it started - as the greatest football nation in the world."

(5) "You can't do better than go away from home and get a draw."

(6) "He's using his strength and that is his strength, his strength."

(7) "Gary always weighed up his options, especially when he had no choice."

(8) "The tide is very much in our court now."

(9) "Chile have three options - they could win or they could lose."

(10) "I came to Nantes two-years-ago and it's much the same today, except that it's totally different."

(11) "I know what is around the corner - I just don't know where the corner is. But the onus is on us to perform and we must control the bandwagon."

(12) "In some ways, cramp is worse than having a broken leg."

(13) "The 33 or 34-year-olds will be 36 or 37 by the time the next World Cup comes around, if they're not careful."

(14) "It's understandable that people are keeping one eye on the pot and another up the chimney."

(15) "I'd love to be a mole on the wall in the Liverpool dressing room.

“That decision, for me, was almost certainly definitely wrong.”

“I'm not disappointed - just disappointed.”

“Hungary is very similar to Bulgaria. I know they're different countries.”

“The tide is very much in our court now.”

'There'll be no siestas in Madrid tonight.'

'That would have been a goal if it wasn't saved.'

The Newcastle job must be the most poisoned chalice in the Premier League.

But I would love it, just love it, if he is a success there.

Nearly as nice as seeing the hero of my avatar getting his 22nd in 20 games. Rooney's goal was a beauty. Superb assist by Tevez, perfect touch by Rooney. Reading, Birmingham and Sunderland all put up a good fight, and all deserved to get more than their 0s. Benjani repays my FF loyalty at last! Weird scenes on MOTD with Lineker and Hansen discussing fellow punter Shearer's future role at Newcastle with him, and Hansen getting all sycophantic about how he and King Kev would be a great team. After today's crap performance, things can only get better.

Anything to get Shearer out of the studio - he's dull as dirt.

Death is the only thing that could make Shearer bearable. Someone bump him off, or just tell the BBC that he's crap. He also seems to think that he will one day be Newcastle manager but doesn't seem to think that he needs to get experience elsewhere first. Someone take him out please. Along with Bryan Robson. And Glennnn Hoddle.

Going in on the Red Bulls season tickets this year with Tom Faust, from our fantasy league. Should be fun. I hope Osorio gets a creative MF somewhere. There is a rumor floating around that we are looking at Marcelo Gallardo, the Argentina international. That would be nice!

Arsenal get absolutely tonked by Spurs, with Gaul-arse and Bendtner nearly coming to blows. I expect a visit from Jackson and Gilli.

Nice to totally thrash them, even sweeter to knock them out of the cup, and a good laugh to see them fighting amongst themselves!! And as for your 'second team' - bollocks!! You thought we would be a walkover but you soon panicked and bought on Fabregas Eduardo and Adabayor didnt you? - and did it do you any good?

If you read back through the footie thread you will see that I don't give a fig about the league cup, and although it is never nice to lose to the scum (although I can't actually remember the last time) the tears will only be flowing from Bendtner who was butted by Adebeyor (not by the winning goalscorer from the arse/chels match in December). Expect your next win against us in 2017.
