Music Quiz Trivia

Post by so lacklustre »

Okay pop pickers, here's your chance to show your knowledge (or your search capability).

Answer a question

Whoever asked the question confirms the answer and posts a leader board (one point for the first person to post the correct answer)

Whoever got the point gets to ask the next question

And so on. It runs forever.

First question, a bit of EC trivia to get it going but questions can be on any music subject.

Ok, a relatively easy one to keep things rolling nicely along...

The Carly Simon song "You're So Vain" was purportedly written about, who?

Mick Jagger.

Hang on, though, if someone answers correctly, but then can't post for a day or longer, won't it get pretty tedious? Maybe we should answer and add a question so that, if correct and first, the question is there at the ready?

OK, so in readiness for SLL approving that, and my answer being correct: name 5 Lloyd Cole and the Commotions songs that namecheck females whose name begins with a J, and give the names in question. (I suspect there are only two people on the board with a hope of getting this one... )

Jagger does harmony vocals on the record, Carly denies it was about him. Many believe it's about Warren Beatty, which she has neither denied nor confirmed.

I don't have a single clue or time to figure out an answer to the Lloyd Cole question.

So both Jagger and Beatty would have been correct? My question stands! This is strictly one for the cognoscenti (all two of them). Anyone attempting a search will drive themselves mad. It was actual the subject of a conversation between me anbd the number one candidate to answer this, so he shouldn't have too much trouble!!!

Damn, I thought we were both right! I'm sure there are people who inssist it was about MJ. I thought I was going to bed and I didn't want to leave it dangling, so posed a follow-up question, but now I look like a dick, cos I'm not in bed, and I got the answer wrong. Never mind, MF can use my question, and I'll get the right answer for a change.

I'd be glad to go with this, I'm dead curious about the answer.

There's a Jane in Brand New Friend
- a Jennifer in Jennifer She Said (funnily enough)
- a Julie in Speedboad
- a Jodie in Rattlesnakes
and a Julie in Mission Street.

Gerry Dorsey.

Is it sad that I only know about this because it was in an Eddie Izzard skit?

Paul. His name is James Paul McCartney.

I was recently in Liverpool and bunked off the conference I was at and took a two hour Beatles bus tour and I won the trivia quiz. Go me!

Do I get to ask a question?

Many thanks for your bananadmiration!

Ron Sexsmith credited a backing band on his first LP (Grand Opera Lane). What were they called?

Dang, I hadn't even seen this thread and so missed my shot at the Lloyd question! Kudos to dark horse candidate Mr. Boom on that one! :)

Otis, that MJ rumor was around a lot in the '70s but Mick's voice is really prominent in the song, if you listen. Of course I'll bet he thought this song was about him.

Sorry, dunno the Sexsmith answer.... carry on...

Let me step in for the absent Dr J and say, yes, the Uncool is 100% correct, and bring on the next!

Nice one Mike Boom, and I thought only Mug and Monk were up to that one. You could also have scored for the recurrence of Jane in Why I Love Country Music (officially one of the best songs ever) and Jessie in the slightly more obscure Grace (bonus track on Easy Pieces cassette version, presumably on CD too). Any others, Mug or Monk?

Good to have discovered another Lloydophile in our midst. Lloyd solo too, or only LC and the Cs? Can I just mention (yet again) that I, plus Monk and Mrs Monk, will be seeing them on their 20th anniversary of Rattlesnakes reunion tour in October. I cannot wait.
